Warriors Win Men’s, Women’s Division II/III Titles at Thomson Invitational

NEWARK, Del. – East Stroudsburg University had three individuals win events on each side to sweep the men's and women's Division II/III team titles at the Thomson Invitational at Delaware on Saturday.

Senior Jasmine Johnson (500m – 1:18.33), sophomore Lauren Ventrella (60m hurdles – 9.40) and senior Lynn Mayer (high jump – 5-7) won on the women's side, and freshman Tim Fields (800m – 2:02.81), sophomore Kyle Soden (high jump – 6-4 1/4) and freshman Corey Kresge (long jump – 21-2) were all first for the Warriors' men.

ESU also won all three relays where it had an entry. In the women's 4x400m, freshman Nicole Brown, senior Trina Carito, Johnson and Ventrella turned in a season-best time of 4:03.96, and in the 4x800m, freshmen Bridget McCarron and Kim Lowry, sophomore Tara Getz and freshman Kim Wernerspach won in 10:06.80.

The men won the 4x400m relay and also set a freshman record in the event. The winning squad of junior Dan Johnson, seniors Negus Graham and Greg Pammer and sophomore Corey Young clocked a time of 3:25.81, followed by the freshman quartet of Christopher Walker, Kyle Touhy, Nate Black and Keith Parker-Washington in 3:27.89

Strong performances for the ESU women were also turned in by Carito, who was second in the 500m and tied for second in the high jump, sophomore Lauren Hannan, who was fourth in both the 60m dash and long jump, freshman Laura Beimfohr (pole vault, 2nd) and seniors Danielle Laws (weight throw, 3rd) and Jackie Berthelsen (shot put, 4th).

The Warriors had the second-place finishers in the men's 60m dash (senior Asher Ashfield), 200m (Graham) and 400m (Pammer) along with the top finisher in the 800m in Fields. Sophomore Amr Aldeen was second in the 3000m and Young was third in the 60m hurdles.

The indoor track and field season continues next Saturday as ESU hosts the DeSchriver Invitational at Koehler Fieldhouse.
