SLIPPERY ROCK – Senior
Danielle Laws and freshman
Elizabeth Madden scored in the women's hammer throw to lead East Stroudsburg University on the first day of the PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which concluded late Thursday night at Slippery Rock.
Laws placed fifth with a mark of 155-10 and Madden was eighth at 143-5, extending her own freshman record by 13 inches. Senior
Caitlin Keen had a season-best of 138-8 to place ninth.
Junior
Dan Johnson is third in the decathlon through five events with 3,322 points and freshman
Nate Black is 10th with 2,775 points.
The Warriors also had competitors in the men's and women's 10,000m run, which were postponed by two hours due to severe weather and finished around 11:30 p.m.
Sophomore
Rose Mascoli, an NCAA automatic qualifier in the 10,000 who has the No. 2 time in the PSAC this season, did not run in the event to prepare for a grueling three-race schedule over the next two days. She will run in the 5000m, where she has the PSAC's No. 3 time, on Friday at 5:20 p.m., the 1500m, where she is ranked No. 8, on Saturday at 12:45 p.m., and the 3000m, where she is also ranked No. 3, on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
Friday's action gets underway at 10 a.m. with the remaining five events in the men's decathlon and last three events of the women's heptathlon. Finals will also be contested in the men's long jump, shot put and javelin and women's high jump, pole vault, shot put and long jump, along with prelims on the track.
