ESU Basketball Hosts Shippensburg Saturday Afternoon

THE MATCH-UP: East Stroudsburg University hosts Shippensburg this afternoon at Koehler Fieldhouse as the Warriors look to knock off the Lady Raiders. ESU is coming off a 69-55 loss to Millersville, while Shippensburg beat West Chester 75-55 on Wednesday night. Shippensburg holds a 25-15 advantage in the series and has won five straight, while ESU won three of the previous six meetings. ESU is two games ahead of Mansfield in the chase for the sixth and final playoff spot in the PSAC East.

LAST TIME OUT: So. F Jessica Martin had 15 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks for her second straight double-double and Fr. C Michelle Boggs had 11 points and 9 rebounds, both career-highs, on Wednesday against Millersville. Jr. G Andrea Veres added 10 points. (Recap)

WARRIORS NOTES: Martin is 4th in the PSAC in blocked shots (1.8) and 5th in rebounds (8.8) ... she had her second straight double-double, 5th of the season and 9th of her career (42 career games) ... she had 15 points and 15 rebounds at Kutztown on Jan. 19 and is averaging 14.3 points, 12.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 3.3 steals and 2.7 blocks in the last three games ... So. G Ryann Fiascki leads the PSAC and is 19th in DII in free throw percentage (88.5, 46-52) ... she led the PSAC and set a PSAC freshman record last year (87.4, 83-95) ... Sr. G Barb Borst is tied for 3rd in ESU history with 117 career 3-pointers ... Veres is 6th with 98 3-pointers.

SCOUTING THE LADY RAIDERS: Shippensburg (11-6, 7-5) is 4th in the PSAC East after two straight home wins, over Mansfield and West Chester ... Jr. G Sarah Strybuc leads Ship with 14.4 ppg, followed by Fr. F Stephanie Knauer (12.6 ppg, 9.6 rpg), Sr. G Dana Wert (11.8) and Sr. G Shawna Wert (11.5) ... Dana Wert went over 1,000 career points (1,006) with a season-high 21 vs. West Chester ... Shawna has 1,181 points ... both started their careers at Georgian Court ... Ship is 3rd in the PSAC in free throw % (71.2).

THE MATCH-UP: ESU (14-2, 11-1), the defending PSAC champion and current PSAC East leader, hosts Shippensburg after extending its winning streak to 8 games (and 12 of 13) with a 68-52 win over 2nd-place Millersville on Wednesday. Ship leads the all-time series, 49-48, after upsetting the Warriors 67-63 last year at Koehler Fieldhouse. ESU had won 8 of the previous 9 and is 9-7 against Shippensburg under Jeff Wilson.

LAST TIME OUT: The Warriors held Millersville to 13 first-half points, the fewest by an ESU opponent in 297 games under Wilson, in Wednesday's win. So. G Whis Grant (17 points), Sr. F Terrance King (14), So. G Matt Tobin (14) and Sr. F Duane Johnson (career-high 14 rebounds) led ESU. (Recap)
