BETHLEHEM – Junior Laura Beimfohr hit the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard in the pole vault and East Stroudsburg University athletes produced four new PSAC qualifying marks on Saturday at the Lehigh Games.

Beimfohr cleared 11-6 1/4, a season best, to become the Warriors' third women's athlete to hit a DII provisional mark this season. She is an NCAA provisional qualifier in five of her six seasons (indoor/outdoor) at ESU.

She was one of four individual winners, along with junior Kim Wernerspach in the 5000m (17:49.25), junior Theresa Horn in the long jump (16-7) and freshman Corey Smith in the men's pole vault (14-6).

New PSAC qualifying marks came from freshman Chelsea Conover (18:47.34) and sophomore Chelsea Wootten (18:55.06) in the women's 5000m, Smith in the pole vault and sophomore Donovan Tolbert in the high jump (6-4 3/4). They join an extensive list of ESU athletes who have already qualified for the conference meet, which will be held May 9-11 at Millersville.

Sophomore Christina O'Connor, coming off an NCAA provisional of 5-6 in the high jump at the Penn Relays on Thursday, cleared 5-5 3/4 to place second at Lehigh. Sophomore Kirsten Muhaw was third in the pole vault (11-0 1/4) and junior Elizabeth Madden had a good showing in the hammer throw (147-0).

For the men, freshman William Berry was third in the high jump (6-6 3/4) one week after hitting the NCAA provisional mark of 6-8 3/4 at ESU's All-American Meet.

The throwers had several season bests and ESU top 10 marks. Sophomores Mike Smith (158-3 - #5) and Joseph Thieme (156-10 - #8) both improved their top-10 marks in the hammer, and sophomore Casey Ciaston improved his #7 mark in the discus to 151-6. Smith improved his career best and PSAC qualifying mark to 48-4 in the shot put.

In the javelin, freshman Thomas Freid hit a PR of 188-9, just off the NCAA provisional of 190-3. The Warriors' top two throwers, seniors Matt Tholis and Josh Hontz, competed at the Penn Relays on Saturday. Tholis threw 213-11, his fifth straight weekend over 210-0.

Sophomore Brandon Mercer was second in the 100m dash (11.00) in the afternoon and caught a 45-yard touchdown pass in ESU's spring football game on Saturday night. Freshman Tim Wilson also did double duty in football and track, running 11.29 in the 100.

Selected Warriors will head to Lock Haven for a last chance qualifying meet next Saturday before the PSAC Championships the following week at Millersville
