Women’s 4x100m Relay Breaks School Record, Hontz Improves Javelin Mark at Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN - The women's 4x100m relay broke the school record, redshirt senior Josh Hontz improved his NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark in the javelin and East Stroudsburg University recorded nine new PSAC qualifying marks in the Warriors' final action before next week's PSAC Championships on Saturday at Lock Haven.

Junior Rachel Pierantozzi, senior Lauren Ventrella, junior Brittany Jones and sophomore Danielle Smith ran a time of 47.37 seconds to break the school record of 47.44 set by Ventrella, Nicole Brown, Pierantozzi and Smith last year.

Hontz improved his NCAA provisional in the javelin to 207-8 after entering the day at 207-3, ninth-best in Division II, at Lafayette on March 30. Senior Matt Tholis has an NCAA automatic mark of 226-5 from Lafayette and did not compete this weekend.

The men's 4x100m relay also ran an NCAA provisional time of 41.20, right on the number and the fifth-fastest in school history, from sophomore Brandon Mercer, junior Keith Parker-Washington, sophomore Kyle Rickard and sophomore Mark Burgess.

The 4x1 relays were two of seven winners for the Warriors, along with Hontz, freshman Seth Bailey in the high jump (season best 6-6 3/4), sophomore Damien Boham in the 400m (season best 48.21), the women's 4x400m relay team of junior Colleen Murphy, Ventrella, senior Aniyah Williams and Smith (season best 3:58.07) and freshman Abby Ross in the 5000m (19:43.76).

Rickard ran PSAC qualifying times of 11.03 in the 100m dash and 22.27 in the 200m. Mercer also qualified in the 200m in 22.66 seconds, senior Mike Saparito in the 400m (50.41) and senior Amr Aldeen in the 1500m (4:00.35). Saparito is also an NCAA provisional qualifier in the 800m in a school-record 1:51.97.

Field event qualifiers came from freshman Laura Gulliver in the women's pole vault (10-2), freshman Chris Davis in the men's pole vault (13-7 1/4) and Parker-Washington in the long jump (22-3 1/2), a season best of more than 18 inches.

Junior Kim Wernerspach qualified in the women's 800m in 2:18.66, the #8 time in school history. Sophomore Imani Rosario improved her PSAC qualifying time to 2:17.63, which ranks #5.

Ventrella ran a PR of 1:03.16 in the 400m hurdles, ESU's #4 time in school history. Freshman Julia Molloy had an outdoor best and ESU's #4 mark in the pole vault at 10-8.

Parker-Washington ran a PR and ESU's #7 time in 21.88, and sophomore Joseph Thieme recorded the Warriors' #5 mark in the hammer at 161-4. Sophomore Travis Toth was just off his NCAA provisional mark of 192-8 in the hammer, throwing 191-11.

The 2013 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held Thursday through Saturday (May 9-11) at Millersville.
