LEWISBURG - East Stroudsburg University's track and field teams both finished second at the 2014 PSAC Indoor Championships this weekend at Bucknell University, the Warriors' best combined showing since both squads were runners-up 35 years ago at the 1979 outdoor championships.

The Warriors won eight PSAC titles, six from the women and two from the men, led by a repeat performance in the sprints by junior Danielle Smith.

Smith swept the 60m dash (7.68) and 200m (25.32) for the second straight indoor championship, giving her seven career PSAC titles, tied for the most in women's program history with distance runner Sue Carden (1979-82).

Junior Christina O'Connor also defended her indoor title in the high jump (5-7) on Sunday. Senior Elizabeth Madden (weight throw, 2nd straight), senior Theresa Horn (pentathlon) and the 4x800m relay of senior Meghan Ragard, junior Imani Rosario, freshman Lauren Toth and senior Kim Wernerspach all won titles on Saturday.

The Warriors' six women's champions are tied for the most in school history with the 1979 squad that competed in the first-ever PSAC women's track and field championship.

The men had two individual champions in sophomore Seth Bailey in the high jump on Sunday, and junior Travis Toth in the weight throw (60-10) on Saturday.

Bailey won his second career PSAC title with a mark of 6-9 3/4 after winning outdoors last year. Classmate William Berry was second at 6-8 3/4 for ESU's only 1-2 finish.

Only two of the Warriors' eight winning performances entered with the top mark going into the championship - O'Connor in the high jump and Toth in the weight throw.

ESU's men are the PSAC runner-up for the sixth time in the last 10 meets (since the 2009 outdoor season). The Warriors are the conference runner-up for the 14th time overall, including the third time indoors (2010, 2013, 2014).

The women are the runner-up indoors for the second time (also 2004), and the sixth time overall, most recently the 2012 outdoor season.

WOMEN

Smith swept the sprints for the third time in the last four PSAC Championships, giving her seven career PSAC titles. She ran the top times in the prelims of the 60m dash and 200m on Saturday, then turned around with championship performances in the 60 (7.68) and 200 (25.32) on Sunday.

Smith has also won the 100 and 200 at the 2012 outdoor championships as a freshman, the 60 and 200 indoors last winter and the 100 outdoors last spring. Her seven PSAC titles are tied for the most by an ESU women's track and field athlete in program history.

Senior Rachel Pierantozzi was fifth in the 60m (7.92) and seventh in the 200m (26.06) to give her six career scoring performances at the PSAC Championships.

Senior Kim Wernerspach scored in both the mile (5th - 5:06.93) and 3000m (8th - 10:20.49). Her mile time is the second-fastest in school history.

O'Connor won the high jump with a mark of 5-7, successfully defending her indoor title from a year ago. She entered with the PSAC's top mark at 5-8.

Sophomore Tirzah Johnson hit a big PR to finish fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 37-4. Her personal best entering the meet was 34-7 3/4 at Lehigh in December in the first meet this season.

The 4x400m relay of freshmen Alexis Bell, Erin Brady, Imani Rosario and Danielle Smith was seventh in 4:03.49 to finish the meet, helping the Warriors rate one point better than Shippensburg in the final standings.

ESU led the team standings entering Sunday on the strength of three championship performances - Madden in the weight throw, Horn in the pentathlon and the 4x800m relay.

Other scorers on Saturday were sophomore Caitlin Perry in the 5000m (8th), sophomore Kirsten Muhaw in the pole vault (t-6th) and freshman Brandie Tartza in the heptathlon (4th).

MEN

ESU successfully replaced 52 individual points from last year's runner-up indoor squad, scoring in 16 of the 18 events.

The Warriors scored big points in the high jump (18), weight throw (15), 60m hurdles (14) and 400m (11) to outdistance Slippery Rock for second.

Bailey and Berry went 1-2 in the high jump. Berry was second (6-11 3/4) and Bailey (6-11) was third on the entry list, trading school-record jumps in the last two weeks. Bailey won his second PSAC title and Berry has placed in the top three at all three meets in his career to date.

Bailey was also fourth in the 60m dash in 7.06 seconds, with junior Kyle Rickard sixth in 7.14.

ESU had three scorers in the 60m hurdles led by freshman Steven Morgan, who was second in 8.34 seconds. Freshman Ronald D'Eliseo had a PR to finish fourth (8.46), and sophomore Adam Robertino was eighth (8.64).

Senior Keith Parker-Washington was eighth in the 200m (22.74) and anchored the runner-up 4x400m relay which won last year's title.

The Warriors' quartet of Boham, D'Eliseo, sophomore Angel Gaetan and Parker-Washington ran a time of 3:18.28, just off the pace of Shippensburg (3:18.10).

Senior Chris Schneider scored 12 points over the weekend with a pair of third-place finishes - the 3000m (8:36.60) on Sunday, following the 5000m (15:03.57) on Saturday. Junior Steve Ruch was sixth in the mile in 4:17.26.
