ALLENDALE, Mich. – East Stroudsburg University junior
Christina O'Connor earned her second career All-America honor with a fifth-place finish in the women's high jump at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at Grand Valley State University.
O'Connor added to her All-America honor as a sophomore during the 2013 indoor season and becomes the third ESU women's high jumper to earn multiple All-America citations, and the ninth ESU women's track and field athlete overall.
O'Connor cleared 5-8, a personal best, on her third and final attempt at the height to seal her All-America status.
She was clean on attempts at 5-3 and 5-5, and cleared 5-7 on her second attempt to assure a top-nine finish with the top eight athletes named All-America.
She was unsuccessful at all three attempts at 5-9 1/4 after her clearance at 5-8.
O'Connor, who was ninth at the NCAA DII Indoor Championships in March, joins Lynn Mayer (6) and current assistant coach Karen (Way) Gaita (4) as ESU women's high jumpers to earn multiple All-America awards.
She won her second and third PSAC championships this year, claiming both the indoor and outdoor titles. Her PSAC-winning mark of 5-7 3/4 was her previous PR and tied for ninth on the national list entering the NCAA's.
ESU had two All-Americans at this year's NCAA DII Championships, with junior
Travis Toth placing eighth in the men's weight throw (193-1) on Thursday.
Sophomore
William Berry (men's high jump) gave the Warriors a third NCAA qualifier and no-heighted on Friday. O'Connor, Toth and Berry all competed at the NCAA indoor and outdoor championships this year.
