NSCAA DII pollMILLERSVILLE - Ben Johnston scored the game's only goal in the 65th minute as Millersville notched a 1-0 win over No. 17-ranked East Stroudsburg University in PSAC men's soccer on Tuesday afternoon.
ESU (4-1, 2-1) suffered its first loss of the season after a 4-0 start. The Warriors were listed No. 17 in this week's NSCAA Division II poll released earlier Tuesday, their first national ranking since 2010.
Freshman goalkeeper William Boerema had three saves for ESU and allowed the first goal of his career after making four saves over a pair of shutouts against Shepherd and St. Thomas Aquinas.
Johnston scored on an assist from Jaime Vazquez 20 minutes into the second half for Millersville (4-0-1, 2-0), which remains unbeaten this fall.
Kohl Orner had four saves for the Marauders.
Millersville had an 18-11 advantage in shots, 10-7 in the first half and 8-4 in the second half.
ESU senior forward
Casey Choffy (six goals) scored in each of ESU's first four games before Tuesday's shutout. Choffy was the first ESU player to score in the first four games of the year since at least 2003.
ESU hosts Mercyhurst on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Eiler-Martin Stadium, following the Warriors' football game vs. Edinboro (1:05 p.m.) on Family Weekend. The Lakers have won two of the last three PSAC championships (2012, 2014) and NCAA DII Atlantic Region titles (2012, 2013).
