Toth Places 2nd in Hammer, Women’s 4x800m Relay Sets School Record Saturday at 122nd Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA - Graduate student Travis Toth placed second in the hammer and East Stroudsburg University's women's 4x800m relay shattered the school record to lead the Warriors on the final day of the 122nd Penn Relays on Saturday at Franklin Field.

Toth hit a mark of 199-10, second in a field of 32 which included 24 NCAA Division I athletes. He hit a PR of 202-2 last Saturday at ESU's All-American Meet which ranks first in the PSAC and No. 8 on the NCAA DII provisional qualifying list this spring.

The women's 4x8 relay ran a time of 9:24.40, breaking the previous record of 9:30.97 set in 2014. Sophomore Kaylyn West led off in 2:19.59, followed by freshman Victoria Matthews (2:21.87), junior Lauren Toth (2:20.25) and sophomore Samantha Young (2:22.71).

The 2014 squad was comprised to Meghan Ragard, Toth, Erin Brady and Kim Wernerspach.

Senior William Berry cleared 6-8 1/4 in the men's championship high jump against a stacked field, finishing tied for 10th of 11 competitors. Berry got over his opening height on his final attempt before bowing out with the bar at 6-9 3/4. Berry has a season best of 6-9 3/4 which ranks third in the PSAC and t-18 in DII.

A total of 21 ESU athletes competed at the three-day carnival this weekend. Other highlights included junior Allison Decker in the 5000m on Thursday night (16:56.53 - NCAA DII provisional, ESU No. 2 time) and the men's shuttle hurdles squad on Friday afternoon, with freshman Akeim Thomas, senior Adam Robertino, sophomore Christian Castro and senior Steven Morgan running 59.99, second-fastest in school history.
