SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Called on to serve as the goalkeeper in a penalty shootout for a second-consecutive season, senior Steven Robak delivered once again.

Robak saved the initial penalty effort, and Shippensburg's final attempt clanged off the crossbar to help East Stroudsburg University advance past the Raiders 4-2 on penalties following a 0-0 draw in Tuesday's PSAC opening round contest.

The Warriors will now travel to top-seeded West Chester for a PSAC semifinal rematch at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. Robak stopped two Golden Ram penalties in last year's semifinal contest between the two teams, playing a key role in ESU's run to the program's 20th conference title.

Senior Brandon Levano, senior Jo Panuccio, graduate student Jordon Ellison and senior Eddy Enowbi converted penalties for the Warriors (9-6-1) in the shootout.

Garret Watson made nine saves in goal for Shippensburg (10-3-4), including several highlight-reel stops in the second half to ensure that penalties were needed. Shots were 22-9 in favor of ESU through 110 minutes of game action, and the Warriors earned 13 of the game's 16 corner kick attempts.

Senior Will Boerema started the game in goal for the visitors, making three saves to secure his fifth shutout of the season.

The first of Watson's memorable saves in the second half was a leaping stop to his right to prevent a 51st minute header by junior Mateo Laredo-Fernandez from going in under the crossbar.

Thirty seconds later, an effort by junior Erik Cardoso was cleared off the line by a Raider defender after he had lifted his attempt over Watson.

The Warriors continued to push forward, controlling majority for a vast majority of the second half. Junior Marcus Torgersson had an 80th minute header off a corner stopped by a diving Watson, and Ellison had a hard low shot saved as well with under four minutes remaining in regulation.

Shippensburg earned a corner kick with six seconds on the clock in the second half, and a resulting header was sent just wide to take the game to overtime. ESU had two of the game's three shots in the two OT sessions, none of which were directed on goal, to set the stage for Robak and the PK takers' heroics.

Sixth-seeded Seton Hill outlasted No. 3 Gannon 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in the other opening round contest on Tuesday. The Griffins advance to play Millersville in the other semifinal at 11 a.m. Friday morning.

The winner of the two semis will play in the PSAC championship game at West Chester at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
