LIU Post Overcomes Rally, Tops ESU Men’s Soccer 5-3

Box Score

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – After falling behind 3-0 to LIU Post with 33:19 remaining in regulation, East Stroudsburg University stormed back with three goals in less than 18 minutes to tie the score.

The Pioneers, though, had an answer, scoring the go-ahead goal in the 78th minute and adding some insurance late to close out a 5-3 victory on Sunday afternoon.

Kyle Parish headed in the game-winner for LIU Post (3-1). Senior Eddy Enowbi netted his fourth and fifth goals of the season for the Warriors (2-1), while junior Irvin Zuzic's tying goal in the 76th minute was his first of 2018.

The teams combined for seven goals in the second half alone, including four in a span of 4:06 early in the frame. Both advanced to the NCAA Division II tournament last season. ESU won its 20th PSAC title in program history, while LIU Post finished as East region champions before ultimately ending its season in the Elite Eight with a final record of 18-1-2.

Lukas Ostermann had the game's lone goal in the opening half, and he doubled the home side's advantage 10 minutes after the intermission on an unassisted strike. Less than two minutes after that goal, the Pioneers went up by three after Paul Hein converted a set play off a corner.

Enowbi quickly got the Warriors back in it. His first goal came only 35 seconds after Hein's, and his second was driven in less than two minutes later. Enowbi was a first team All-PSAC selection after leading ESU with nine goals last fall, and he is already more than halfway to reaching that total after only three contests in 2018.

The Warrior equalizer came off a corner kick. Graduate student Jordon Ellison sent the ball in to fellow graduate student Nico Gericke. He headed a pass over to Zuzic for another header which found the right corner inside the post. Zucic registered his first goal after tallying five assists across the first two games, including four in last Tuesday's 6-2 win over Chestnut Hill.

The game was not tied for long, as Parish's game-winner came off another corner kick with 12:59 left on the clock. ESU followed with the next three shots before Anton Ocampo rounded out the scoring for the Pioneers in the 89th minute.

The Warriors ended the contest with a 16-10 shot advantage, including a 9-5 edge in shots on goal. They have scored 13 goals through their first three games this season.

ESU returns to Eiler-Martin Stadium for its next game, hosting West Chester in the PSAC opener for both teams at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams met twice in the postseason in 2017, with the Warriors advancing on penalties in the PSAC semifinals and the Golden Rams earning a 2-1 double-overtime win in the second round of the DII tournament.
