WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University men's soccer team fell by a 4-1 margin at No. 23 West Chester on Wednesday afternoon in PSAC East action.
West Chester registered a pair of goals in the opening 18:29 of play to jump out to the early 2-0 advantage. Doug Goitia tallied his fifth goal of the season off a feed from Matt Stevenson in the ninth minute to put the Golden Rams on top, before Stevenson netted one of his own in the 19
th minute to double up the lead.
Late in the half, Shane Hartey was able to find the back of the net for his first goal of the season, which pushed the WCU lead to 3-0. Stephen Thompson was credited with an assist on the score.
ESU broke through for its first tally with just over 15 minutes remaining in the match.
Anton Lysell gathered it at the top of the box and lofted a shot into the top right corner for his fourth goal of the season, which is now tied for the team-lead along with
Bradley Turocy.
WCU responded just two minutes later on Hartey's second of the contest, with Josh Daniels picking up an assist on the play. The tally pushed the Golden Rams' lead to 4-1, which they held onto for the remaining 13 minutes of play to close out the victory.
West Chester (8-3-1, 5-2-1 PSAC East) outshot ESU (6-3-3, 3-3-1) in the contest, while corners were even at four apiece.
