Three Warriors Earn Don Hansen Football Gazette All-Region Honors

EAST STROUDSBURG – Senior Jordan Walters, redshirt freshman David Akinwande and junior Andre Eldridge of the East Stroudsburg University football team earned Don Hansen Football Gazette Super Region 1 honors on Monday.

Walters was named to the Super Region 1 First Team Offense at the kicker position, and also earned Third Team Defense honors at the punter position. Walters had a record-breaking campaign as a senior with the Warriors, tying the ESU single-season program record with 16 made field goals on the year while also setting a new ESU and PSAC record with a 56-yard field goal at West Chester on October 26. Walters finished the year 16-for-19 on field goal attempts for an 84.2-percent conversion rate. The senior also averaged 41.2 yards per punt, which was the third-highest in the PSAC. He pinned opponents inside their own 20-yard line a league-high 17 times on the season.

Akinwande earned a spot on the Super Region 1 Third Team offense at the fullback position. The rookie played a key role in ESU's offense which ranked sixth in the PSAC with 30.7 points per game. Akinwande, who helped pave the way for ESU's ground game and provided protection in the passing game, helped the Warriors rush for 1,353 yards and 18 touchdowns on the year. Akinwande caught his first career touchdown in a victory at Lock Haven in late September.

Eldridge was key for the Warriors along the defensive front, finishing the season with 48 tackles, including 27 solo, to go along with 2.5 sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss, as he earned a spot on the Super Region 1 Third Team Defense. The junior from South Brunswick, New Jersey ranked second on the team in tackles for loss, third in sacks, and fourth in total tackles. Eldridge registered a season-high nine tackles in back-to-back games against Bloomsburg and West Chester.

The three Warriors helped ESU to a 6-5 overall record on the year, which marked the team's first six-win season since 2015.
