Montrel Morgan contributed a career-high 17 points as East Stroudsburg University led throughout in a 77-62 win at Lock Haven on Wednesday.
The Warriors (16-6, 13-3 PSAC) won their fifth game in a row and completed a season sweep of the Bald Eagles (10-11, 7-9 PSAC). Smith totaled a team-high 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Williams had 18 points and 11 boards.
This was the eighth time this season that ESU led a game from start-to-finish, with Smith, Williams and Morgan scoring six points apiece during an 18-6 run to begin the contest. Lock Haven had the deficit down to 33-24 late in the first half, but six more points from Smith highlighted an 8-0 stretch prior to the intermission which increased the margin to 17 points.
Smith, who earned his fourth PSAC East Freshman of the Week award on Monday, recorded 18 of his 21 points in the opening 20 minutes. He has now reached double figures in 15-consecutive games, which is the fourth-longest run by a Warrior player in the past 16 seasons.
The Bald Eagles never got closer than 12 points in the second half. A Morgan 3-pointer gave ESU its largest advantage of 69-45 with 8:14 remaining.
Morgan was hot from beyond the arc all night long, hitting 5 of 6 shots from 3-point range and 6 of 8 attempts from the field overall. His previous career scoring high was a 15-point effort at Shippensburg on January 5.
Williams registered his third double-double in ESU's last five contests while making 8 of 13 field goal attempts. His 11 double-doubles are the second-most in the PSAC and rank in the top 20 nationally.
ESU ended the night with a dominant 46-25 advantage on the glass, including a 21-3 edge in offensive rebounds. The +21 rebounding margin was the team's largest against a DII opponent since Nov. 18, 2015 against Shippensburg (+23, 51-28).
Matt Cerruti, who was named PSAC East co-Athlete of the Week along with Williams on Monday, had 28 points and 10 rebounds while playing all 40 minutes for Lock Haven. Redshirt senior
Jakwan Jones, the PSAC's assist leader in 2018-19, dished out a game-high seven in the victory for ESU.
The Warriors remained a game ahead of Shippensburg for second place in the PSAC East standings, and they continue to trail West Chester by a game and a half for the top spot. Shippensburg topped Millersville 81-76, while West Chester bested Mansfield by a 91-56 final for its 14th-straight win earlier this evening.
ESU has its final bye of the season this weekend. The Warriors return to Koehler Fieldhouse for an 8 p.m. matchup with Bloomsburg next Wednesday.
