Logan Stirr and junior
Joey Paolini combined to hit four home runs for East Stroudsburg University on Wednesday as the Warriors defeated LIU Post 12-3 at Creekview Park in a non-conference matchup.
ESU (11-5) tallied five home runs in the contest, a mark that they have hit five times since 2003. The Warriors last hit five or more home runs in a single game on Feb. 24, 2018, in game one of a doubleheader against Saint Rose. LIU Post (9-9) dropped its third-straight contest and fell to 0-6 on the road this season.
Stirr and Paolini each finished 3-for-3 at the plate for ESU and combined for eight runs batted in. Paolini tallied five RBI and scored a pair of runs, while Stirr finished with three RBI and scored three runs. Sophomore
Brock Kauffman finished with a hit and two RBI for ESU, while three other Warriors registered a hit in the contest.
Joe Piscitelli paced the Pioneers with a 2-for-5 effort at the plate. He recorded one RBI for LIU Post, while eight other Pioneers' tallied a hit in the contest.
The Warriors got to work right away in the first inning as Kauffman clubbed a two-run home run, his second of the season, to extend his hitting streak to 14 games and give ESU a 2-0 advantage over the Pioneers.
Stirr connected on his first career home run in the bottom of the second as he doubled ESU's lead to 4-0. Paolini followed Stirr with his first long-ball of the day, sending a 0-1 pitch over the fence in left field. The Warriors increased their lead to 6-0 in the frame as sophomore
Brainy Rojas scored from third following a throwing error by the LIU Post catcher.
LIU Post scored its first run of the contest in the top of the third inning against ESU freshman starter
JP Nolan. The Pioneers later added a pair of runs off a single from Reynaldo Guillen in the top of the sixth inning.
Paolini delivered his second home run of the day in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it 9-3 in favor of ESU. The Warriors would score their first runs of the contest without hitting a home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Redshirt junior
Tom Nuneviller scored from third off a throwing error by the shortstop, while Paolini plated a pair of runs with a single to make it 12-3.
Nolan tossed the first three innings for the Warriors before giving way to the bullpen. He allowed one run off three hits while walking one batter and fanning one. Freshman
Justin Guidos (3-1) tallied the win for the Warriors after tossing a clean fourth inning. Junior
CJ Gonzales worked two innings for ESU and would get the Pioneers to hit into a pair of double-plays with runners on first and second and no outs.
The Warriors open PSAC East play on Friday as they head to Lock Haven for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. ESU then hosts the Bald Eagles for a pair of games on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. The Warriors will also be holding their annual Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Game on Saturday.
