Box Score (Game One) | Box Score (Game Two)

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University baseball team snapped a nine-game losing streak on Saturday against West Chester with a pair of victories at Serpico Field. The Warriors secured a 6-5 win in the opener and capped-off the sweep with a 12-7 victory in game two.

ESU (21-8, 8-2 PSAC East) recorded its first doubleheader sweep against the Golden Rams since 2013 and tallied its first win since a 12-3 decision during the 2016 season. West Chester (16-7, 7-3) dropped back-to-back games for the first time this season and fell to 3-4 at home this season.

Sophomore Brock Kauffman finished the day 4-for-9 at the plate with four runs batted in for the Warriors. Kauffman also tallied a pair of doubles to go along with two runs scored, while sophomore Brainy Rojas delivered a pair of hits and five RBI for ESU. Rojas sparked the Warriors' offense with a three-run home run in game two. Sophomore Sirwalter Melendez went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI, including the eventual game-winning double in game two.

ESU opened game one with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning as junior Anthony Torreullas doubled to plate junior CJ Lopez to make it 1-0. Kauffman would later score off an RBI groundout from freshman Logan Stirr to make it 2-0.

The Warriors doubled their lead in the second inning as Rojas doubled to plate a run, while Kauffman singled home Rojas to make it 4-0 in favor of ESU. West Chester answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame to trim the deficit to 4-3. The Golden Rams would then take a 5-4 advantage with two runs in the third inning.

Kauffman knotted the score in the fourth inning for ESU with a double that made it 5-5. Redshirt Christian Rishel followed with a go-ahead run-scoring single that plated Lopez to make it 6-5.

Freshman Justin Guidos and junior Connor Johnson combined to keep the Golden Rams scoreless through the final four innings working out of the bullpen for ESU. Guidos (3-1) scattered three hits and recorded a pair of strikeouts, while Johnson earned his fifth career save after yielding just two hits through the final two innings of play.

In game two, it would be Rojas who sparked the ESU offense with a three-run home run in the top of the third inning. The momentum would quickly change hands however as West Chester plated six runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-3 advantage. ESU rallied in the fourth as a double from Kauffman plated a pair of runs to knot the score 6-6.

Melendez provided the eventual game-winning hit for the Warriors in the fifth inning with a double that allowed a pair of runners to touch home. Leading 8-6, the Warriors would add four runs in the sixth inning without needing a hit to plate the runs. Two runs would score off infield groundouts, while one scored via an error and the other off a bases-loaded walk.

West Chester, looking to trim the deficit in its final at-bats in the seventh inning, plated a run off a sacrifice fly to make it 12-7. Junior CJ Gonzales (2-2) earned the win for ESU after allowing just one unearned run off two hits through four innings of work.

The Warriors host the Golden Rams on Sunday for a pair of games at Hughes Field beginning at 1 p.m. ESU then hits the road for three games before returning home to host Bloomsburg on April 14 at 1 p.m. for Alumni Day.
