STROUDSBURG – Junior Anthony Torreullas delivered an infield single in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the East Stroudsburg University baseball team a 4-3 walk-off win against No. 18 West Chester in game one of a doubleheader on Sunday at Hughes Field. The Golden Rams tallied a 9-6 victory in game two to avoid the four-game sweep.

ESU (22-9, 9-3 PSAC East) notched three consecutive wins against West Chester in the same season for the first time since 2013 and secured its first four-game series victory against the Golden Rams since 2011. West Chester (17-8, 8-4) used a five-run top of the sixth inning in game two and scored eight of its nine runs through the final three innings to secure the win.

Torreullas went 4-for-7 on the day for ESU, adding a pair of doubles and four runs batted in. Redshirt senior Mike Sulcoski and junior Joey Paolini each hit a solo home run for ESU in game two and both finished the day with a pair of hits.

Making his second start of the season for the Warriors, junior Joe Baran held the Golden Rams scoreless through the first three innings of game one. West Chester would take a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning off a groundout that allowed a runner from third to score.

The Warriors answered in the bottom of the frame as freshman Logan Stirr reached base on a fielder's choice. Sophomore Brock Kauffman would score on the play to knot the score 1-1. ESU loaded the bases in the fifth inning but would be unable to score as West Chester worked out of trouble after walking three batters in the frame.

West Chester scored twice in the top of the sixth inning to take a 3-1 lead against the Warriors and would hold onto its advantage until the bottom of the seventh inning. Following a pair of walks, redshirt senior PJ Van Orman delivered a pinch-hit single for ESU that cut the deficit to 3-2. Stirr would knot the score 3-3 in the next at-bat with a single into shallow right field.

Torreullas provided the heroics in the bottom of the eighth inning as his single off a 1-2 pitch split the middle infielders for the Golden Rams and scored sophomore Sirwalter Melendez from third to secure the 4-3 victory. Junior Connor Johnson (2-1) recorded the win for ESU after fanning two batters and tossing a clean top of the eighth inning.

The Golden Rams opened the scoring in game two as a run-scoring double in the top of the third inning gave West Chester a 1-0 advantage. ESU rallied in the bottom of the fourth inning as Sulcoski and Paolini hit back-to-back home runs to put the Warriors up 2-1. The solo home run for Sulcoski was his first of the season, while Paolini hit his team-leading fourth.

West Chester plated a pair of runs in the fifth inning to retake the lead as a pair of run-scoring singles made it 3-2. Torreullas gave the Warriors back the lead in the bottom of the frame with a double that scored two runs to make it 4-3. Stirr worked his second bases-loaded walk in as many days to put ESU up 5-3.

The biggest hit of the series for West Chester would come with the bases loaded and one out in the top of the sixth inning. Justin Horn sent a ball over the fence in right-center to clear the bases and give the Golden Rams a 7-5 lead. Torreullas added a run-scoring double in the sixth inning for ESU to trim the deficit to 8-6 but the Golden Rams held on for a 9-6 victory.

Redshirt sophomore Nate Fiala took a no-decision for ESU after exiting the game with one out in the fifth inning. Senior Logan Zavada (0-1) suffered the loss for the Warriors after tossing the sixth inning.

The Warriors hit the road for three games before returning home to host Bloomsburg for Alumni Day on April 14 at 1 p.m.
