Miller Wins Long Jump, ESU Third in Team Standings after Day 2 of PSAC Championships

MANSFIELD, Pa. – Freshman Justin Miller delivered a personal-best mark of 23-2 3/4 en route to placing first in the long jump, while freshman Carlos Pepin finished third in the high jump on the second day at the 2019 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Mansfield.
 
Miller garnered all-conference accolades and gave the East Stroudsburg University men's track & field program its second consecutive long jump championship at the PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Junior Darnell Randall won the event in 2018 for the Warriors and placed sixth this year with a mark of 22-8.
 
Pepin recorded a personal-best mark of 6-6 1/4 to earn all-conference accolades for ESU in the high jump after finishing third. Freshman Mamadu Bari qualified for the Warriors in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.83.
 
ESU had a pair of qualifiers in the 110-meter hurdles as senior Mike Matrisciano delivered a personal-best run of 14.70, which ranks sixth all-time in program history. Senior Akeim Thomas ran a personal-best time of 14.93 and earned the final qualifying spot in the event. Freshman Jalen Bailey just missed qualifying with a time of 14.95.
 
Junior Andrew Schumacher qualified in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.52, while sophomore Dominic Walton finished fourth in the discus with an NCAA Div. II provisional mark of 163-6 for the Warriors. Walton has provisional marks in both the shot put and discus this season.
 
Freshman Brendan Shaffer matched his personal-best time of 10.93 in the 100-meter dash and just missed qualifying in the event for the Warriors, while senior Patrick Monahan ran a 10.98 for ESU. Senior Khai Samuels finished ninth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.42 for the Warriors.
 
In the decathlon, sophomore Garth Estadt finished fourth for ESU with a personal-best 5,832 points. Estadt tallied four personal-bests through the final five events of the Decathlon on Friday, including a third-place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 12-7 1/2. He placed fifth or better in five of the 10 total events for ESU.
Freshman Eric Krzyzaniak finished 11th with a personal-best 5,150 points, while senior Kevin Costabel finished 13th with 4,776 points.  
 
ESU is currently third out of 13 schools in the team standings heading into the final day of competition at the 2019 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Warriors will compete in a total of 11 events on Saturday, including all three relay events.
