Hummel Finishes Fifth in Hammer, Estadt Sits Fourth in Decathlon after Day 1 of PSAC Championships

MANSFIELD, Pa. – Senior Jonathan Hummel placed fifth in the hammer throw and sophomore Garth Estadt sits in fourth-place through five of 10 events in the decathlon following the completion of the opening day at the 2019 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
 
Hummel delivered a mark of 163-8 for the Warriors in the hammer, matching his fifth-place finish in the event from 2017. Sophomore Dominic Walton finished eighth with a personal-best mark of 157-7 and sits 10th all-time in program history in the event. Freshman Daryn Blackwell finished 11th for ESU with a mark of 150-3.
 
In the 10,000-meter run, sophomore Casey Ellis placed eighth for the Warriors with a time of 32:33.64. Ellis nearly matched his personal-best time in the race and dropped over 25 seconds off his season-best time in the event.
 
Estadt tallied 3,207 points through the opening five events of the Decathlon for the Warriors. He set a personal-best in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.56 while also adding a personal-best time of 52.40 in the 400-meter race.
 
He would place fourth in the long jump with a mark of 20-10 and fifth in the high jump with a mark of 5-10 3/4. He also finished ninth with a mark of 31-11 1/4 in the shot put.
 
The remaining five events (110-meter hurdles, 1500-meter, discus, pole vault, and javelin) will be completed on Friday morning. Estadt's personal-best point total in the decathlon is 5,638, which he recorded at the Mondschein Multi at Kutztown in April.
 
Freshman Eric Krzyzaniak and senior Kevin Costabel are also competing in the decathlon for the Warriors. Krzyzaniak is in 13th with 2,766 points, while Costabel is in 15th with 2,707 points. Costabel ran a personal-best time of 11.63 to place sixth in the 100-meter dash, while Krzyzaniak finished eighth with a time of 11.67.
 
The Warriors will have 23 individual athletes competing across 16 events on Friday. ESU will also field three relay teams in the 4x100, 4x400, and 4x800. The finals of the 2019 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships are scheduled to take place on Saturday at Mansfield University.
