ESU Men’s Soccer Defeats Holy Family 2-1 on Ferreira’s Second-Half Goal

Box Score

EAST STROUDSBURG – Graduate midfielder Duarte Ferreira scored his first goal of the season in the 79th minute to give the East Stroudsburg University men's soccer team a 2-1 win against Holy Family on Thursday night at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

ESU (3-1-2) was outshot 6-4 in the contest by the Tigers but stayed on the offensive attack as time ticked away in the second half.

Freshman Bradley Turocy scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season at the 7:13 mark to give the Warriors a 1-0 advantage. Turocy found the back of the net after taking a feed from junior Oliver Lundberg that would beat Tigers goalkeeper Mark Tobin.

Holy Family would knot the score 1-1 in the 17th minute as Georg Montag netted his first goal of the season off a ball played in by Sean McCormick. The two sides would head into the half tied 1-1 as Tobin and ESU redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Evan Miele each made one save.

Miele kept the score at 1-1 early in the second half as he stopped a shot by the Tigers' Davis Habilaj. Holy Family would get another look at the net in the 57th minute as Habilaj had another shot denied by Miele.

Following a corner kick at the 78:57 mark that would be taken by senior Sergio Bortolon, Ferreira found a loose ball that deflected off the goalkeeper and deposited it into the back of the net to make it 2-1 Warriors.

Miele fought-off one final push by the Tigers as Montag tallied his fourth shot on frame but would be denied by the Warriors' goalie.

Miele (3-1-2) made five saves in the contest for ESU, while Tobin (2-2) made two saves. Turocy tallied a pair of shots on goal for the Warriors, while Ferreira and junior Anton Lysell each added one shot on frame.

The Warriors host Bloomsburg next Wednesday in a PSAC East match beginning at 7:30 p.m. before heading to Shippensburg on Oct. 2.
