ESU Men’s Soccer Stunned by Late Goals from Bloomsburg, 2-1

EAST STROUDSBURG – A goal from senior Marcus Torgersson in the 58th minute wouldn't be enough for the East Stroudsburg University men's soccer team on Wednesday as the Warriors dropped a 2-1 decision against the Bloomsburg University Huskies at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

ESU (3-2-2, 0-2-0 PSAC East) saw the Huskies rally for a pair of goals in the 84th and 87th minutes to erase a 1-0 deficit.

The Warriors recorded four shots on frame in the first half but were unable to beat Bloomsburg goalkeeper Nolan Michaels. Bloomsburg tallied three shots of its own on frame against redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Evan Miele.

ESU held a 9-3 advantage in shots overall and had the advantage of six corners compared to just one for Bloomsburg.

Torgersson opened the scoring in the contest at the 57:47 mark as he took a feed from junior Oliver Lundberg and headed it past Michaels to make it 1-0. The score was Torgersson's third of the season for ESU.

The Warriors seemed all but on their way to a victory on their home field until the Huskies had other plans. Mike Bazadona III beat Miele off an assist from Tyler Madeira to knot the score 1-1. Evan Novian followed just a couple of minutes later with a goal of his own to put the Huskies on top 2-1.

ESU finished with six shots on goal in the contest, including a pair from senior Javaughn Hussett. Miele (3-2-2) made a season-high seven saves in net for ESU despite allowing the two goals and suffering his second loss of the season.

The Warriors travel to Shippensburg next Wednesday for a 4:30 p.m. match against the Raiders. ESU returns home to host Lock Haven and Millersville on Oct. 6 and Oct. 9 before making its first trip to Shepherdstown, W. Va. for a contest with the Shepherd Rams.
