KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Dominic Walton highlighted action at the Golden Bear Invitational for the East Stroudsburg University men's track & field team on Friday, as the junior posted an NCAA provisionally-qualifying mark in the shot put with a toss of 53-4 ½.
Walton became the first Warrior on the men's team to qualify for Nationals this season with his performance. Walton's mark of 53-4 ½ earned him second place in the event, and his throw was just under a foot short of his personal record (54-4) that was set last season.
Walton also had a solid performance in the weight throw, posting a new PR of 56-1, which moved him into fifth on ESU's all-time top-10 list in the event.
The Warriors had three new PSAC qualifiers in the 55m hurdles, led by Jalen Bailey, who won the race in 7.77. Eric Krzyzaniak and Daniel Daley tied for third with times of 8.29.
Following up Walton in the shot put was Noah Lockwood, who finished third with a toss of 49-4 ½. His mark snuck him into ESU's all-time top-10 in the event. Isaac Alamoney earned a PSAC qualifying bid with a throw of 44-4 ¾, as he joined Walton and Lockwood who previously posted PSAC qualifying marks in the event during the season-opening meet.
In the weight throw, Daryn Blackwell and Lockwood were ESU's next top performers behind Walton. Blackwell registered a new PR of 51-2 ¼, which placed him seventh on ESU's all-time top 10 list, and Lockwood posted a mark of 46-7 ¼.
All five ESU competitors in the long jump reached PSAC qualifying standards, with three of those Warriors joining the qualifying ranks in the event for the first time of the season. Justin Miller finished second with a mark of 22-5 ¾, while Jamal Cooley finished third with a PR of 22-3. Garth Estadt placed fifth with a leap of 21-6 ¾, and Daeshawn Teague (21-2 ¼) and Austin Nice (21-0 ½) rounded out the team's performances.
Miller also finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 47-1, and Cooley joined him in qualifying for PSACs, registering a 45-10 ¾ in the event.
In the 55m, four Warriors notched PSAC qualifying times in the first time the team has competed in the event this season. Brendan Shaffer placed third with a time of 6.66, while Raul Esteves clocked in at 6.68 to finish just behind Shaffer. Nick Lawrence (6.68) and Shavar Hussett (6.72) posted their best times in the event during preliminary heats to earn PSAC qualifying times.
Ryan Ruggiero and Robert Plumb became the two newest Warriors to qualify for PSACs in the pole vault, as the pair each posted marks of 13-3 ½ in the event.riors' top mark with a leap of 5-6.
Lawrence notched the team's best time in the 200m to take fourth place, while Esteves finished in fifth.
The Warriors also finished 4-5 in the 400m, as Andrew Schumacher (53.41) and Sean Roberts (53.58) earned the team's top performances in the event.
The Warriors return to action on January 18 at the Moravian Invitational in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
