BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University men's track & field team won seven events and posted eight new PSAC qualifying marks at the Moravian Invitational on Saturday at Lehigh University's Rauch Fieldhouse.
Dominic Walton had another impressive performance for the Warriors, winning both the shot put and the weight throw. Walton, who posted an NCAA provisionally-qualifying mark in the shot put at the Golden Bear Invitational last week, bested that toss with a new PR of 55-2 on Saturday, which is the second-best mark in ESU program history. Walton also placed first in the weight throw with a mark of 54-3 ¾.
Following up Walton in the shot put was Noah Lockwood who took third place with a throw of 47-0 ¼. In the weight throw, Daryn Blackwell finished behind Walton in third place with a mark of 50-5 ½. Both athletes, along with Walton, previously qualified for PSACs in those respective events during last week's meet at Kutztown.
Brendan Shaffer and Raul Esteves became new PSAC qualifiers in the 60m dash. Shaffer raced to a first-place finish in 7.05, which came up just short of his PR of 7.00 set last season. Esteves clocked in at 7.22 to take fourth place and just reach the PSAC cut.
Jamal Cooley notched a new PR in the triple jump, registering a 46-5 ½ to earn a first-place showing. Freshman Obed Bamungwa finished second in the event with a season-best leap of 43-5 ¼, which earned him a PSAC qualifying bid as he became the third Warrior to qualify in the event this season, along with Cooley and Justin Miller.
In the 60m hurdles, Jalen Bailey raced to a first-place finish with a time of 8.49 to earn a PSAC qualification. Daniel Daley, who posted a PSAC qualifying mark in the event at the season-opening meet, notched a time of 8.96 this time around to take sixth place.
Darnell Randall posted the team's other first-place showing in individual events, taking the top spot in the high jump with a leap of 6-4, as the performance earned Randall a PSAC qualifying bid in the event.
The Warriors also had success in the 4x400m relay, as the team of Sean Roberts, Bailey, Andrew Schumacher and Mamadu Bari took first place with a time of 3:27.78.
Other Warriors to earn new PSAC qualifying bids at the meet were Alex Race, who posted a new PR in the mile with a time of 4:29.27, Ben Reisenweaver in the 800m with a time of 2:00.96, and Bari in the 400m with a time of 51.93.
In the pole vault, Dan Amari earned a second-place showing with a mark of 13-11 ¼, Grant Fox finished third with a 13-11 ¼, and Khalid Holland came in sixth with a 12-11 ½. All three competitors previously qualified for PSACs in the event at the season-opening meet.
ESU's next meet is the Gulden Invitational hosted by Bucknell next Saturday, January 25.
