LEWISBURG, Pa. –
Darnell Randall and
Dominic Walton of the East Stroudsburg University men's track & field team posted NCAA provisionally qualifying marks to highlight competition for the Warriors at the Gulden Invitational on Saturday. Randall was named the Field Athlete of the Meet after claiming a pair of first-place finishes.
Randall set a new PR in the high jump with a leap of 6-8 ¾ to take first place in the event and earn an NCAA provisionally qualifying bid. His mark is tied for eighth on ESU's all-time top-10.
Obed Bamungwa became a new PSAC qualifier in the event with a mark of 6-0 ¾.
Randall also took first place in the long jump with a 23-2 ¾, which is the longest of the season by a Warrior and also earned Randall PSAC qualification in the event.
Jamal Cooley, who previously qualified in the event, finished sixth with a mark of 22-1.
Walton was the other Warrior to earn an NCAA provisionally qualifying mark on Saturday, as his toss of 58-8 ½ in the weight throw set a new PR and placed him third on ESU's all-time top-10 in the event.
Daryn Blackwell (49-1 ¾) and
Noah Lockwood (48-9) were the team's next top finishes in the event.
Walton also won the shot put with a new PR of 57-6 ½, which is the second-best mark in ESU history. He previously posted an NCAA provisionally qualifying mark earlier this season, and has now qualified in both the shot put and weight throw. Following up Walton in the shot put were
Noah Lockwood (49-1 ¾) in fifth place and
Isaac Almoney (44-9 ¾) who posted a season-best in the event.
ESU had a few new PSAC qualifiers in distance events as many of the Warriors competed in those event for the first time this season.
Casey Ellis won the 5000m in 15:26.63 and
Dylan Senatore placed fourth in 15:53.16 as both runners earned PSAC qualification. In the mile,
Andrew Lopez clocked in with a PR of 4:29.23 to qualify for PSACs.
Jalen Bailey raced to a fourth-place finish in the 60m hurdles with a season-best time of 8.38. Bailey previously qualified for PSACs in the 60m hurdles at last weekend's meet. Two other Warriors became new PSAC qualifiers in the event, as
Eric Krzyzaniak (8.82) and
Garth Estadt (9.07) posted their qualifying times in preliminary heats, while
Daniel Daley, who already qualified last weekend, registered a season-best time of 8.93.
In the triple jump,
Joel Ingram qualified for PSACs with a 43-6, which earned him a fourth-place finish. Bamunga, who previously qualified in the event, finished fifth with a 42-9.
Dan Amari posted a new PR in the pole vault with a mark of 15-3 which places him in a tie for fifth on ESU's all-time list. Sophomore
Grant Fox (14-9), along with freshmen
Khalid Holland (13-9 ¼) and
Robert Plumb (13-3 ½) also posted PRs in the event.
Bailey and
Raul Esteves each notched PSAC qualifying times in the 200m, with Bailey clocking in at 22.58, followed by Esteves with a 22.96.
In the 60m dash,
Shavar Hussett (7.20) and Randall (7.18) became the two newest Warriors to qualify for PSACs in the event.
Sean Roberts was the team's top finisher in the 500m, placing third with a time of 1:07.51.
The 4x400m relay saw Roberts,
Andrew Schumacher, Bailey and
Brendan Barton combined for a time of 3:29.21 to take fourth place. In the 4x800,
Luke Valdevit,
Alex Race, Lopez and
Colin Crosbie also took fourth in 8:20.85.
The next action for the Warriors will be at ESU's own Deschriver Invitational on Saturday, February 1 at Koehler Fieldhouse.
