Miller Posts NCAA Provisionally-Qualifying Mark; Warriors Win 12 Events at DeSchriver Invitational

EAST STROUDSBURG – Justin Miller posted an NCAA provisionally-qualifying mark in the triple jump to highlight competition for the East Stroudsburg University men's track & field team on Saturday at ESU's 21st annual Dick DeSchriver Invitational. The Warriors won 12 events at the meet and added five new PSAC qualifying marks.

Miller took first place in the triple jump with a PR of 49-5 ½, as his performance pushed him into third place on ESU's all-time top-10 list in the event, and is the sixth-best mark in all of Division II this season. Miller becomes the the third Warrior to provisionally qualify for Nationals this season, joining Dominic Walton (shot put and weight throw) and Darnell Randall (high jump).

Finishing behind Miller in second place in the triple jump was Jamal Cooley, who was just shy of his PR with a 46-5 ¼. Freshman Joel Ingram notched a PR of 44-2 to take third place as the Warriors recorded the top three performances in the triple jump. Miller, Cooley and Ingram had all previously qualified for PSACs in the event.

ESU took the top-five spots in the pole vault, led by Dan Amari's first-place mark of 15-1. Amari posted his PR of 15-3 in the event last weekend. Grant Fox (14-1 ¼), Khalid Holland (13-7 ¼), Robert Plumb (13-7 ¼) and Ryan Ruggiero (13-1 ½) placed second through fifth, respectively. Plumb, a freshman, set a PR with his mark of 13-7 ¼. All five of ESU's competitors in the event have already qualified for PSACs.

The weight throw saw the Warriors take four of the top-five placements, as Walton led the way once again with a first-place showing following a toss of 57-5. Last weekend, Walton registered an NCAA provisionally-qualifying mark in the weight throw. Following up Walton in second was Daryn Blackwell, who posted a mark of 49-11 ¼. Noah Lockwood set a PR with a 48-9 ½ to finish in third, and freshman Isaac Almoney claimed fifth place with a PR of 45-7 ¾ as he became the newest Warrior to qualify for PSACs in the event. Walton, Blackwell and Lockwood had already previously earned qualifying marks prior to this meet.

In the 55m hurdles, Jalen Bailey raced to a first-place finish in 7.84. Garth Estadt set a PR of 8.44 to earn a conference-qualifying bid and finish third, and Daniel Daley claimed fourth place in 8.45. The trio are three of the four Warriors to qualify for PSACs in the event this season.

The Warriors had three distance runners become new conference qualifiers on Saturday. Alex Race won the 3000m (9:03.89), Teddy Mostellar finished second in the 5000m (15:53.68) and Austyn Hamilton ran to a third-place showing in the mile (4:32.31).

Colin Crosbie joined ESU's all-time top-10 in the 600m, as his time of 1:25.31 places him  fourth in ESU history in the event and earned him a first-place showing at the meet. Zandrew Bowe was the team's next finisher, placing third in 1:28.12.

ESU earned the top-two showings in the long jump, led by Miller's mark of 22-3 ½. Austin Nice finished second with a leap of 21-2 ½. Both competitors previously qualified for the conference championships in the event.

Walton claimed the top mark in the shot put, registering a 56-3 ¾ on Saturday. Walton posted his PR last weekend, which was good for second-best in ESU history. Lockwood (45-8) and Isaac Almoney (44-2 ½) placed third and fourth, respectively. Walton, Lockwood and Almoney have all previously qualified for PSACs in the shot put earlier this season.

The 1000m saw Andrew Lopez take first place with a PR of 2:41.54, while Luke Valdevit clocked in with a PR of 2:44.54 to finish in third.

The Warriors won all three relay events at the meet. In the 4x200m, Bailey, Mamadu Bari, Nick Lawrence and Brendan Shaffer claimed first place in 1:31.93. The 4x400 saw the squad of Sean Roberts, Bailey, Crosbie and Bari earn the top showing with a season-best time of 3:25.20. The relay team of Josh D'Agostino, Lopez, Koodsha Manjaro and Valdevit took first place in the 4x800 in 9:03.55.

Shaffer set a PR in the 55m (6.55) to finish third, while Shavar Hussett (6.67) and Raul Esteves (6.68) were the team's next two finishers. Shaffer, Hussett and Esteves have each already posted conference qualifying marks in the 55 dash.

In the high jump, Obed Bamungwa, who previously qualified for the conference championships in the event, leaped to a mark of 5-10 ¾ to earn ESU's top placing and finish in third.

The Warriors host their final home competition of the indoor season, the ESU Quad Meet, on Friday, February 7, with action from Koehler Fieldhouse beginning at 5 p.m.
