KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University men's track and field team registered six first-place finishes and added a pair of new PSAC qualifying marks on Friday night at the Kutztown Last Chance Qualifier.
Adding to their long list of qualifiers for the conference championships, ESU's
Mamadu Bari and
Luke Valdevit became the team's newest to earn qualifying bids on Friday. Bari placed first in the 200m with a time of 22.95 to qualify, and Valdevit's qualifier came in the mile, as he clocked in at 4:32.05 and finished third in the event.
One of ESU's most impressive performances of the night came from
Grant Fox in the pole vault. Fox set a PR by clearing 15-6 ¼, which pushed him into second place on ESU's all-time top-10 list in the event. Freshman
Khalid Holland also set a PR as he cleared 14-6, and
Ryan Ruggiero was next up for the Warriors in the event as he reached 13-6 ¼.
Daryn Blackwell earned the top showing in the weight throw with a toss of 52-1, and
Noah Lockwood placed second with a PR of 50-9 ½. Lockwood's performance moved him into ESU's all-time top-10 in the event as he joined Blackwell on the list. Freshman
Isaac Almoney also set a PR in the event with a toss of 46-2.
In the long jump,
Darnell Randall registered a 23-1 ¾ to take first place, while
Joel Ingram notched a PR with his leap of 21-5 ¼. Randall also earned ESU's top showing in the high jump by clearing 6-4. He provisionally-qualified for Nationals in the high jump earlier this season with a 6-8 ¾.
The team's other pair of first-place finishes on the night came from
Ben Reisenweaver in the 800m (2:00.72) and
Brendan Barton in the 400m (53.03).
ESU's relay squad of
Sean Roberts, Nick Fanelle,
Andrew Schumacher and
Raul Esteves combined for a time of 3:35.11 in the 4x400 to take first place.
The Warriors took the second and third spots in the 55m, led by
Raul Esteves' time of 6.70.
Shavar Hussett clocked in just behind him in 6.72.
ESU also had competitors finish 2-3 in the triple jump as
Obed Bamungwa placed second with a leap of 42-8 ¾, and Ingram took third with a 42-5 ¼.
Josh D'Agostino was the team's top finisher in the 3000m as he clocked in at 9:27.60, and
Koodsha Manjaro was next up with a time of 9:49.07.
Almoney earned the top placing for the Warriors in the shot put with a toss of 44-9 ½.
Coming up next weekend for the Warriors is the PSAC Indoor Championships on February 29 and March 1 in Edinboro.
