LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – For the thirteenth-time this season, senior
Tiffany Lapotsky scored at least 20 points in a game but it wouldn't be enough as the East Stroudsburg University women's basketball team dropped a 60-48 decision on Wednesday night in PSAC East action.
ESU (18-9, 14-7 PSAC) would shoot just 16.7 percent from the field in the third quarter as the Bald Eagles held a 39-30 advantage headed to the fourth quarter after going 5-of-12. The Warriors can clinch the No. 2 seed in the East along with a first-round bye with a win on Saturday against West Chester.
Lapotsky finished with a game-high 20 points on 8-of-19 shooting from the field to go along with six rebounds and two assists. Senior
Jordan Hertz added 10 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists for the Warriors, while redshirt sophomore
Julia Kutz tallied nine points, five boards, and three steals.
The Warriors gained an early 5-2 advantage in the contest as Hertz drained one of her two 3-pointers on the night with 6:04 left in the first quarter. Redshirt junior
Sadie Cresswell extended ESU's lead to 8-4 following a trey of her own off an assist from Lapotsky.
Lock Haven rallied offensively to eventually knot the score 8-8 before increasing its lead to 12-8 off a layup from Jaynelle Robinson with 1:29 left to play. Lapotsky hit a jumper before the buzzer to trim the deficit to 12-10 following a steal from junior
Kaitlyn Swint.
Trailing 15-10, the Warriors scored five unanswered points to even the score as Hertz connected on her second 3-pointer of the night. ESU would hold a pair of leads in the quarter as Lapotsky drained her lone trey of the night to give the Warriors an 18-17 advantage.
Lapotsky continued her string of scoring as she made it 20-19 and 22-21 in favor of the Warriors before Lock Haven closed the half on a 4-0 run. Bink Redman finished a layup with 12 seconds left in the half to give the Bald Eagles a 25-22 lead going into the break.
Lock Haven extended its lead to 29-22 early in the third quarter before Lapotsky ended the run with a jumper for the Warriors. ESU trimmed the deficit to just three points on several occasions before the Bald Eagles closed the quarter with a 5-0 run to take a 39-30 edge into the final quarter.
The Bald Eagles quickly pushed their lead to double-digits early in the fourth quarter and would fight off a couple of late rallies from ESU. Lapotsky tallied her final points of the contest with 43 seconds left in the quarter as her jumper cut the gap to 54-46. Rileigh Devine hit a pair of free throws to put Lock Haven up 56-46 and help secure the victory on Senior Night for the Bald Eagles.

Tiffany Lapotsky) prior to the start of its final regular-season game on Saturday against West Chester. Tip-off between the Warriors and Golden Rams is scheduled for 1 p.m. inside Koehler Fieldhouse.
