MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The East Stroudsburg University softball team recorded its first win of the season in game two at Barry University on Saturday to earn a split in the doubleheader against the Buccaneers.
Facing a Barry program that has made 17 appearances in the NCAA Division II Tournament in its history, the Warriors dropped the opening game by a 9-0 margin in five innings, but they showed their fight in game two, coming away with a 6-2 victory to improve their record to 1-3 on the young season.

Barry put together a four runs in the first inning and added five more in the fourth, and pitcher Sarah Johnson limited the Warriors to five hits in a complete game shutout, as the Buccaneers collected a 9-0 victory in five innings to open the doubleheader.

Four of the first five hitters reached base in the opening inning for Barry as the Buccaneers jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead. Savannah Starling capped the inning with an RBI single to push the advantage to 4-0.
Barry added five more in the bottom of the fourth, with Berlin Colvin, Kayla Posten and Peyton Rawls each knocking in runs in the frame.
Johnson went the distance, striking out four and yielding five hits in 5.0 innings of work to record the victory.

Freshman
Katherine Donaghue hit her first collegiate homer and Ashley spencer registered three RBIs to lead the way on offense, while
Marah Range struck out six in a complete game effort in the circle, as the Warriors prevailed by a 6-2 margin in game two.
Donaghue got the Warriors on the board early, launching a two-run homer to left in the top of the first inning to give ESU a 2-0 advantage. The homer was the first of the freshman's collegiate career and the first by a Warrior this season.
Leading by a pair heading into the final inning, the Warriors got some insurance as
Ashley Spencer ripped a double to center to score Donaghue, Govan and
Sofia Cecchin, making it a 6-2 game.
Range finished out her complete game to register her first win with the Warriors. The junior transfer piled up six strikeouts and yielded just three hits in 7.0 innings of work in the victory.
The Warriors round out the weekend with a doubleheader at Nova Southeastern on Sunday, February 9 beginning at 1 p.m.
