Miller Notches NCAA Qualifying Mark; ESU Adds Seven New PSAC Qualifying Marks at Quad Meet

EAST STROUDSBURG – Justin Miller provisionally qualified for Nationals with his leap of 23-6 in the long jump on Friday at East Stroudsburg University's Quad Meet. The Warriors also added seven new PSAC qualifying marks on the night.

Miller's performance in the long jump earned him a first-place finish in the event, and his mark of 23-6 set a PR and places him sixth on ESU's all-time top-10. Finishing behind Miller in second place in the long jump was Austin Nice, who posted a season-best mark of 21-10.

Miller now has two NCAA provisionally-qualifying marks this season, coming in the long jump and triple jump. He's one of three Warriors, along with Dominic Walton (shot put and weight throw) and Darnell Randall (high jump), to earn NCAA marks this season.

Miller also won the triple jump, notching a 48-0 ½ to lead the field. Freshman Joel Ingram set a PR of 44-6 ¼ to take second in the event, and Jamal Cooley placed third with a leap of 43-6 ½.

The Warriors had three new PSAC qualifiers in the 400m, led by Sean Roberts, who placed second in 51.24. Freshman Zandrew Bowe (51.73) and senior Colin Crosbie (51.83) both hit PRs to become new PSAC qualifiers in the event, while Mamadu Bari, who previously qualified, also posted a PR of 51.75.

ESU took the top two spots in the 5,000m, as Jeremy Smith (15:57.49) and Nate Senatore (15:58.69) qualified for the conference championships in the process. The Warriors also had the top pair of showings in the 800m, with Austyn Hamilton leading the way with a PR of 1:57.82. Andrew Lopez finished second in 1:59.34 to qualify for PSACs, joining Hamilton who already earned a bid.

The other new PSAC qualifier of the night for the Warriors was Caleb Carney, who took third in the high jump with a mark of 5-10 ¾.

Walton had another solid night for the Warriors, placing second in the shot put with a toss of 57-5 ½. Noah Lockwood came in second with a mark of 48-8 ¾. In the weight throw, Walton notched a mark of 55-3 ½ to earn a third-place showing. Daryn Blackwell set a PR of 52-9 ¼, which places him seventh on ESU's all-time top-10 list in the event, four spots behind Walton. Noah Lockwood hit a mark of 48-6, and freshman Isaac Almoney posted a PR of 46-1 ½ to round out the team's top performers in the weight throw.

ESU had the top showing in the 55m dash as Brendan Shaffer raced to a first-place finish with a PR of 6.53. Raul Esteves placed third in 6.71. In the 55m hurdles, Jalen Bailey set a PR of 7.70 to win the event, and Garth Estadt registered a fourth-place finish in 8.45.

The pole vault saw three Warriors set PRs, as Dan Amari and Grant Fox both cleared 15-5, and Ryan Ruggiero cleared 14-5 ¼. Khalid Holland (13-5 ¼) and Robert Plumb (13-5 ¼) recorded the other top performances in the event for the Warriors.

Other top showings from ESU on Friday were Nick Lawrence, who won the 200m in 23.25, and Luke Valdevit, who placed second in the mile with a time of 4:35.32.

The Warrior relay squad of Andrew Schumacher, Hamilton, Brendan Barton and Bowe placed first in the 4x400 with a time of 3:30.07.

ESU won the quad meet with 166 team points, while Kutztown (68), West Chester (40) and Bloomsburg (5) rounded out the standings.

ESU returns to action on February 14 at the Fast Track Invitational hosted by Wagner.
