The Series
- Bloomsburg holds a slim edge in the all-time series (43-39-3).
- The Warriors look to snap a four-game losing streak to the Huskies. BU has earned victories in 11 of the last 12 contests since ESU's 2005 NCAA playoff win over Bloomsburg.
- In the Warriors last win in 2015, ESU scored 15 unanswered points, including a go-ahead two-point conversion with 1:10 remaining to defeat the Huskies 35-34 at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
Last Time Out: In a battle of the top two rushing offenses in the PSAC, it was West Chester that would come out on top with 326 yards rushing and held ESU to 88, defeating the Warriors, 42-24, on a warm fall Saturday afternoon at John A. Farrell Stadium. yard plus touchdown receptions in the fourth quarter. Wide receiver Rece Bender highlighted the offense, recording a career-high 157 yards of receiving, He pulled in two 50-plus yard receptions, including a 64-yard touchdown. He now has four 50-plus yard receptions this season, including three over the past two weeks.
Passing Good Company
- With his second completion against West Chester, Jake Cirillo surpassed current Penn State head coach James Franklin for ninth all-time in program history in completions with 333 completions. Cirillo has an opportunity to jump up higher on the list that features Warrior greats Bill Dukett (390), Jeremy Palm (426) and Andy Baranek (429), Matt Marshall (471), Bret Comp (485), Damian Poalucci (556), Matt Soltes (840) and ESU head coach Jimmy Terwilliger (906).
- Cirillo currently stands at 3,975 passing yards with 30 touchdowns. He passed Tim Roken (3,933 yards) for 10th all-time in career passing yards last weekend, with James Franklin next on his radar with 4,687 passing yards for ninth place.
- The East Stroudsburg native is just three touchdowns from tying ESU offensive coordinator Mike Terwilliger for 10th all-time in career passing touchdowns with 33.
Rece'ing to the End Zone: Rece Bender continued his explosive play against West Chester, pulling in a career-high 157 yards on a 64-yard touchdown and a 53-yard reception to setup a score. Bender previously has scored a 96-yard touchdown against Millersville (tied for the longest in DII this season and longest play from scrimmage for ESU since 2013), a 78-yard touchdown reception against Pace and a 99-yard kickoff return against Lock Haven. His dynamic play helped the Lancaster native eclipse 1,000 yards in receiving against the Golden Rams and is climbing the ESU all-purpose yards career list with 2,348 (T-28th with Pete Radocha 1974-76).
Run and Gun: Week eight of the 2021 season marks the first week in which Gunner Anglovich has been surpassed as the rushing yards leader in the PSAC. The Bethlehem native was held to 21 yards on nine carries before suffering an injury during the first half against WCU. His 664 yards rushing ranks continues to lead the East Division and ranks third overall in the league, trailing Logan Wiland of Seton Hill (722) and Melvin Banks of Gannon (706). Anglovich's availability against Bloomsburg is still to be determined.
McCarthy The Menace: Despite not registering a sack last week, Deshawn McCarthy continues to rank among the country's leaders in both sacks and tackles for loss. The Philadelphia natives' 1.5 sacks per game ranks second to Tylen Coleman of Western New Mexico in Division II. McCarthy's 1.9 tackles for loss per contest also ranks in the top-10 of the country, ranking ninth. McCarthy's 10.5 sacks on the season currently ranks 10th most among Warriors during a single season. He is five sacks away from surpassing Joe Ruedt and Des Hussey for the ESU single season record.
Scouting the Huskies
- BU is coming off a dominant 44-0 win over Lock Haven last Saturday.The Huskies posted a season-best 227 yards rushing on 53 carries, averaging 4.28 yards per carry.
- David LePoidevin threw for 246 yards on just seven completions, including a 78-yard strike.
- The kick return brothers of Kaleb Monaco (2nd in PSAC) and Chris Monaco (12th) rank among the best in the PSAC, with both averaging over 20 yards per return. The Monaco's graduated from nearby Pocono Mountain West.
- Fellow Pocono Mountain West grad AJ Simon leads the PSAC with 2.2 tackles for loss per contest, which ranks fifth in Division II.
- Big play threat Malik Langley leads the league in yards per reception, with 31.21 yards per catch.
- Defensively, the Huskies have forced an impressive 18 turnovers through seven weeks to lead the conference. That mark ranks 10th among Division II teams.
The Trenches: ESU's offensive and defensive lines have had a huge impact on the season. ESU's offensive line has helped the Warriors to rank second nationally in tackles for loss allowed (2.14 per game) and 18th in sacks allowed per game (1.0) Defensively, the Warriors rank 11th in team sacks and second in the PSAC (3.71).
Taking Care of the Ball: ESU has not made many mistakes when handling the pigskin, ranking fourth nationally in turnovers lost (4 total), 16th in fumbles lost (2) and seventh in passes had intercepted (2).
Red Zone our Zone: The Warriors rank in the top-25 in both red zone defense (17th) and red zone offense (21st) in Division II.
Automatic: ESU is only team to not miss a PAT this season in the PSAC, with kicker Devin Bartholomew converting all 22 attempts. Bartholomew booted ESU's
Dirty Laundry: Penalties continue to plague ESU, ranking 144th nationally in fewest penalties and fewest penalty yards of 163 Division II teams. Only Edinboro has posted more penalty yardage in the PSAC this season.
