Warriors Blank Millersville, 2-0

Raymond and Turocy record second half goals in the win

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. -- After a scoreless first half, the East Stroudsburg University men's soccer team made the most of its second half opportunities to defeat Millersville, 2-0, on Wednesday afternoon at Pucillo Field.

The Warriors improve to 4-4-1 and 2-1-1 in the PSAC East, while Millersville, the defending PSAC champions, fall to 6-4-0, 2-3-0 in league action.

ESU's Colby Raymond and Bradley Turocy each found the back of the net for their fifth and seventh goals of season. Lucas Marques tallied an assist on Raymond's opening goal, while Abdullah Nuredini also registered a helper. 

Goalkeeper Raymond Fortebuono (1-0) made his first appearance of the season in goal for the Warriors, not allowing a shot past him for the shutout.

Notables

  • Fortebuono made eight saves in his debut, including a pair of impressive second half saves on back-to-back Marauder opportunities.
  • Raymond now leads ESU with 17 points just nine games this season with five goals and seven assists.
  • Marques (5 goals, 5 assists) and Turocy (7 goals, 1 assist) each have 15 poitns for the Warriors.
  • Turocy's goal was the 13th of his career and gave him his 30th point in the Red and Black.
  • ESU was actually outshot by a significant margin, with the Marauders holding a 21-6 advantage on shots and 8-3 on shots on goal.
  • Millersville also led in corner kicks, 7-2.
  • The Warriors have now won its previous two meetings in Millersville against the Marauders after seven consecutive losses on the road to MU.

How it Happened

  • 65:41 | After a scrum for possession near midfield Trevor Paone would find Marques. ESU's two-leading scorers would link up again, as Raymond found space behind a defender and Marques used a through ball to find Raymond. The Kingwood, N.J. native's shot would deflect off the goalie and into the bottom left of the net for the score.
  • 82:35 | ESU extended its lead on deep pass off a free kick from ESU's defensive end. Nuredini sent a bullet of a pass forward. Turocy's was able to just beat the approaching Marauder goalkeeper to ball, gain possession and volley a shot into the open net.

The Warriors look to keep momentum, completing a three-game road trip at Shepherd. Saturday's contest is slated to start at 1:00 p.m. in Shepherdstown.
