SHIPPENSBURG – East Stroudsburg University senior back Hannah Barbush has been named the PSAC Champion Scholar for the 2021 PSAC Field Hockey Championships as the student-athlete with the highest grade-point average at the championship site, announced on Friday.
Barbush (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central), a Special Education and Early Childhood major, has a 3.9 GPA through six semesters at ESU. She is serving as the secretary on ESU's 2021-22 Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and has been field hockey's SAAC representative for three years.
The senior was just named to the All-PSAC First Team on Wednesday after starting all 18 games this season on the back line.
Barbush scored three goals, recorded a team-high eight assists and notched four defensive saves. The senior was named the PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Week on November 1 after making a pair of defensive saves in a win over No. 5 Millersville to clinch the two seed in the conference tournament.
Barbush had the fifth most assists in the PSAC and ranked tied for third in the conference and seventh nationally in defensive saves during the regular season.
She is the second ESU field hockey player in program history to be named the PSAC Champion Scholar, joining All-American Sydney McCarthy (2016-17 & 2017-18).
Barbush becomes ESU's 22nd recipient of the award.
