AUSTIN, Texas – East Stroudsburg University senior Ali Finch was named to the Academic All-America Third Team for volleyball on Friday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The Cadillac, Mich. native becomes the program's first-ever student-athlete to be named to an Academic All-American team after earning CoSIDA Academic All-District honors back on November 18. The senior posted a 3.95 undergraduate GPA and a 4.0 GPA at ESU while pursuing her master's degree in Communication Sciences & Disorders.
Since the beginning of the Academic All-America program in 1979, the Warriors have now had 55 student-athletes earn a total of 76 awards.
Finch put together one of the most impressive single-seasons in school history by earning D2CCA All-Atlantic Region First Team honors, the PSAC East Player of the Year award and All-PSAC East First Team recognition. The senior was a three-time PSAC East Athlete of the Week and finished the year ranked fifth nationally in triple doubles with five.
The senior excelled in every area for the Warriors this year as she finished with a team-high 204 kills, 855 assists, five triple doubles and was second on the squad in digs (335) and blocks (83.0).
Seven members of the Academic All-America Division II volleyball first team had an aggregate undergraduate GPA of 3.93. Nineteen of the 21 Academic All-America selections played in this year's NCAA Division II playoffs, including the Elite 90 winner and five other first team members. Eight members of the Academic All-America® Division II volleyball teams are repeat picks.
