Esteves Sets Freshman Record to Highlight Men’s Track & Field at Paul Kaiser Classic

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University men's track and field team won four events and freshman Raul Esteves set the freshman record in the 100m dash on Saturday at the Paul Kaiser Classic hosted by Shippensburg at Seth Grove Stadium.

Esteves clocked a personal-best time of 10.64 in the 100m dash to break the freshman record that was held by Brandon Mercer since 2012. The Dover, N.J. natives' time was also the third fastest recorded in program history.

Running Highlights
Esteves continued his impressive outdoor season for the Warriors with a runner-up finish in the 100m dash after clocking a personal-best time of 10.64 seconds. Esteves' time is also the third fastest in program history. He followed that up by winning the 200m dash with a time of 22.50 seconds.

In the 5000m run, Senior Casey Ellis took third with a personal-best time of 14:59.58.

Zandrew Bowe paced the Warriors in the 400m dash with a fourth place finish after running a time of 50.77 seconds. Caleb Carney earned the same finish for the Warriors in the 110m hurdles with personal-best time of 15.51 seconds.

Field Highlights
Carlos Pepin led off the day for the Warriors in the field events with a first place finish in the high jump after clearing the bar at a season-best height of 1.95m. Romanley Turnier took third with a personal-best height of 1.95m on his third attempt.

Senior Dan Amari returned to form by winning the pole vault after clearing the bar at season-best height of 4.70m. Fellow teammate Grant Fox took fourth by matching a season-best height of 4.40m.

In his first time competing for the Warriors this season, senior Dominic Walton took first in the shot put with a mark of 15.22m. He followed it up with a runner-up finish in the discus with a throw of 48.66m.

Senior Daryn Blackwell paced the Warriors in the hammer with a third place finish after recording a mark of 53.04m.

Up Next
The Warriors will get one final tune up on Saturday, May 1 when they head to West Chester for the Last Chance Meet which is scheduled to get underway at noon.
