Amari Wins Pole Vault, Walton Finishes as Runner-Up in Discus, Warriors in Second After Day Two of PSAC Championships

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Senior Dan Amari captured the title in the pole vault and senior Dominic Walton finished as the runner-up in the discus for the East Stroudsburg University men's track and field team on day two of the 2021 PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg.

In the team standings, Warriors are currently in second place out of 13 schools with 46.5 points headed into the third day of the championships. 

Amari became the first Warrior to win the event since Matt Gallup, who accomplished the feat back in 2009, as he cleared the bar at personal-best height of 4.83m. The East Meadow, N.Y. native's effort is tied for the second best in program history as well as an NCAA provisional mark.

Senior Dominic Walton finished as the runner-up in the discus to earn all-conference honors as he recorded a mark of 48.56m on his fourth attempt and freshman Isaac Almoney took eighth with a personal-best throw of 44.14m.

ESU started off the afternoon on the track by qualifying for 4x100m relay finals tomorrow as Austin Nice, Sean Roberts, Raul Esteves and Jared Williams clocked the third fastest time in the prelims at 43.14 seconds.

The Warriors earned the last two qualifying spots in the 400m as freshman Zandrew Bowe delivered a time of 50.32 seconds while junior Sean Roberts ran a season-best time of 50.42 seconds.

Freshman Raul Esteves posted the fastest time overall in the 100m at 10.81 seconds to qualify for tomorrow's finals.
 
In the 400m hurdles prelims, freshman Lawrence Bass finished third in his heat and sixth overall with a time of 57.30 to advance to tomorrow's finals.

Senior Teddy Mostellar closed out the day for the Warriors with a seventh place finish in the 3000m steeplechase after clocking a time of 9:56.60.

In the decathlon, Caleb Carney finished fourth with a personal-best point total of 5697. The freshman kicked off his day by winning the 110m hurdles with a personal-best time of 15.71 seconds. He followed it up by placing 11th in the discus with a throw of 21.44m and eighth in the pole vault after clearing a personal-best height of 3.35m. Carney closed out the day with a personal-best throw of 37.10m in the javelin and a personal-best time of 4:55.15 in the 1500m. He also just missed qualifying in the 110m hurdles as he finished ninth with time of 15.78.
 
Junior Eric Krzyzaniak placed right behind Carney in fifth with a personal-best 5666 points. He started his day with a personal-best finish in the 110m hurdles at 16.35 seconds and followed it up by taking fourth in the discus after recording a mark of 27.04m. The Hanover, Pa. native went on to post a personal-best height in the pole vault at 3.65m.

Daniel Daley rounded out the scoring for the Warriors in the decathlon with an eighth place finish after recording 5415 points.

Austin Nice took 10th in the long jump with a season-best mark of 6.43m.

Due to inclement weather, the 200m will be run tomorrow as a timed final at its originally schedule time.
 
ESU is back at Shippensburg tomorrow for the final day of the 2021 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Action gets underway at 11 a.m. with a number of field events while running events start at 12:30 p.m. with the 4x100, relay finals.
