Warriors Wins Three Events, Finish Second in Team Standings at PSAC Championships; Roberts Named Champion Scholar

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University men's track and field team won three events and finished second in the team standings for first time since 2014 on Saturday at the 2021 PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg.

Junior Dominic Walton won the shot put, freshman Raul Esteves captured the 100m title and. sophomore Carlos Pepin finished first in the high jump and junior Sean Roberts was named the champion scholar.

After recording 106.5 points, the Warriors have now recorded a top-three finish in each of the last eight seasons.

Walton recorded the first win for ESU in the shot put since Paul Wagner in 2010 as he recorded a throw of 16.20m on his second attempt. Freshman Isaac Almoney finished ninth with a toss of 13.69m.

Esteves took first place in the 100m with after clocking a time of 16.70 seconds. The Dover, N.J. native became the first Warrior to win the event since Asher Ashfield in 2011. He returned a few events later to take fourth in the 200m after finishing in 22.23 seconds.

Pepin claimed the first victory for ESU in the high jump since William Berry in 2016 as the Lodi, N.J. native cleared the bar at 2.02m on his first attempt. That effort by Pepin is also the 10th best mark in program history.

Junior Sean Roberts was named the champion scholar for the second consecutive year in men's outdoor track and field. The Saddle Brook, N.J. native recorded a 4.0 GPA while majoring in political science and criminal justice.

The Warriors started off the day by taking third in the 4x100m relay. Austin Nice, Roberts, Esteves and Jared Williams clocked a season-best time of 42.76 seconds.

Following an hour rain delay, Roberts finished seventh in the 400m with a season-best time of 50.41 and freshman Zandrew Bowe was behind in eighth with a time of 50.67.

In the 400m hurdles, Lawrence Bass took fifth after clocking a time of 56.79. Casey Ellis would also fifth in the 5000m after running a time of 15:12.51. The senior led the race from the 1000m through the 3000m mark.

In the 1500m, sophomore Luke Valdevit just missed scoring as he took ninth with a time of 4:05.73.

ESU closed out the day with a runner-up finish in the 4x400m relay. Lawrence Bass, Bowe, Roberts and Esteves clocked a season best-time for the Warriors at 3:24.07.
