NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – Three members of the NCAA semifinalist East Stroudsburg University lacrosse team were named Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Americans, the organization announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Freshman midfielder Emily Mitarotonda and graduate student goalkeeper Tatyana Petteway were selected to the IWLCA All-America Second Team, while graduate student midfielder Hana Cicerelle landed on the IWLCA All-America Third Team.
As a first-year player, Mitarotonda tied for the team-lead with 48 goals and distributed 12 assists for 60 points. She led the Warriors with 72 draw controls and caused 23 turnovers on the defensive end. The Rockaway, N.J. product posted at least one goal in all 16 games for ESU, saving her biggest point output in the NCAA semifinal against Queens, by recording six goals and an assist against the Royals to land on the NCAA DII All-Tournament Team. She was named IWLCA National Offensive Player of the Week after leading ESU in goals (7), points (11), draw controls (13) and caused turnovers (6) in wins over Seton Hill and West Chester to claim ESU's second-ever Atlantic Region title. Mitarotonda's 48 goals and 60 points rank second-most by a freshman in program history.
Petteway concluded her accolade-filled career with IWLCA All-America Second Team honors, the third time in her career that she has earned All-American status. She becomes the first three-time IWLCA All-American in program history, after being named to the IWLCA All-American Second Team in 2019 and the IWLCA's Third Team as a freshman in 2017. ESU's all-times saves leader (764 career saves) ranked 10th in DII in goals against average (8.28), and seventh in both save percentage (.533) and saves (139) during her final season in the Poconos. She finishes her collegiate career ranked sixth all-time in DII in career saves and is DII's all-time goalkeeper minutes played leader with 4,412 minutes spent in the cage. She posted a 58-16 record during her tenure in the cage at ESU. Â
Cicerelle, ESU's all-time points leader, paced the Warriors' offense with 48 goals and 16 points for a team-best 64 points in 2021. She ranked fifth in the PSAC with 4.0 points per game. She began the season with an impressive eight-game mulit-goal streak on her way to back-to-back PSAC East Offensive Athlete of the Week honors. She also ended her final season at ESU on a tear, averaging 4.3 points per game over her final six games. In her final game in the Red and Black, Cicerelle posted five goals against Queens in the NCAA Semifinals to land on the NCAA DII All-Tournament Team. The native of Broadway N.J. closes her collegiate career ranked second all-time in both goals (180) and assists (90) with her first IWLCA All-American selection. Â Â Â
