UNION, N.J. -- For the first time in 2022, the East Stroudsburg University swimming team returned to competition, facing Kean in a time trial at D'Angola Pool. There was no team scoring.
The Warriors and Cougars competed in 17 events on the afternoon, with ESU taking the top spot in six of the races.
Notables
- The Warrior 200-yd medley relay team of Jenna Johnson, Julia Harnish, Avery Fohring and Emma Billings bested their teammates with a time of 2:01.63.
- Competing against herself, Madison Tafe clocked a time of 12:16.94 in the 1000-yd freestyle.
- The 200-yd freestyle was next, as Naihomy Garcia went head-to-head with KU's Kat Riggins. Garcia topped Riggings with a time of 2:12.48, besting the opposition by over 12 seconds.
- In the 100-yd breaststroke, Harnish earned runner-up, posting a time of 1:15.94.
- Johnson took second place ion the 200-yd individual medley with a time of 2:23.32. It's the second-fastest time for a Warrior in the event this season and Johnson's season-best time. Fohring followed close behind Johnson with a time of 2:25.67 for a third-place finish.
- The 50-yd freestyle was the next event, as Erin Brandeburg hit the touch pad for a second place finish with a time of 27.86. Gabby Ciesla snagged third place with a mark of 29.20.
- ESU took the top two spots in the 50-yd butterfly, as Emma Billings (29.82) and Nina Marchese (29.90) finished first and second, respectively. The time for Billings is a season-best.
- Sarah Banksy finished third in the 100-yd backstroke with a time of 1:14.76.
- Harnish picked up another second-place finish in the 50-yd breaststroke, clocking a 34.32. Fohring followed with a mark of 35.08.
- ESU had all three participants in the 500-yd freestyle. It was Maddie Tafe that finished with the fastest time of 5:57.80.
- The Warriors earned the top four spots in the 100-yd butterfly, as Fohring (1:04.25) led the pack of Johnson (1:05.12), Sarah Luigard (1:06.25), Ellie Parido (1:10.76) and KU's Kat Riggins (1:15.80).
- Garcia earned a second-place finish in the 100-yd freestyle (59.56), while the Warriors closed the meet with a second and third place finish in the 200-yd freestyle relay. ESU's group of Johnson, Garcia, Tafe and Billings posted a time of 1:48.44 for second place.

- ESU is idle until Jan. 29, when the Warriors head to Bloomsburg to face the Huskies and Millersville in a tri-meet.
- The Warriors will then host the annual ESU Invitational, welcoming the Marauders, Kutztown and Division I Lehigh to Koehler Fieldhouse on February 5.
