Volleyball Falls to Gannon in PSAC Semifinals

ERIE – The East Stroudsburg University volleyball team saw its 2022 season come to end as the Warriors were swept by Gannon in the PSAC Semifinals on Saturday afternoon inside the Highmark Events Center. The set scores were 15-25, 27-29, 11-25.

The Warriors finish the year 15-14 overall while the Golden Knights win their 13th straight match to improve to 25-5 and advance to tomorrow's PSAC Championship game against Clarion.

Notables vs. Gannon
  • Claire Choloux led the Warriors with 11 kills while the junior added a pair of digs
     
  • Juniors Kaylee LoPresto and Sydney Stone combined for 14 kills and 15 digs
     
  • LoPresto finished the season with 266 kills and 256 digs to become the 20th player in program history since 1996 to record 250 kills and 250 digs in a season
     
  • Anna Coulter added four kills, two digs and two blocks as the Hershey native wrapped up an impressive first year with 91 blocks, the third most by a freshman in a season
     
  • Sophomore Taylor Haan dished out a team-high 22 assists
     
  • Junior Makayla Baca notched 13 digs to finish the season with 472
     
  • The Golden Knights out hit ESU by a margin of .297 (47 kills, 12 errors) to .120 (33 kills, 19 errors)
     
  • Gannon also led the match in aces (8-3) and blocks (6-3)
How it Happened vs. Gannon
  • Gannon got out to an early 9-4 lead in the first set before the Warriors trimmed their deficit to two at 10-8. The Golden Knights proceeded to score six of the next nine points to stretch their advantage to 16-11. Following an ESU timeout, it was all Gannon as the Golden Knights went on a 9-4 run to close out the Warriors, 25-15, for a 1-0 lead in the match.
     
  • It was back and forth to begin the second set, but with Gannon leading 9-7, the Golden Knights scored five straight points to pull ahead 14-7. Gannon looked to be in control at 24-13, but the Warriors went on a 11-0 run with the help of five kills and two aces to tie the score at 24-24. ESU would then fight off three straight set points at 25-24, 26-25 and 27-26, until a kill and an attack error lifted the Golden Knights to a 29-27 set two win.
     
  • Gannon carried that momentum over into the final set, leading by five points on multiple occasions (8-3, 9-4, 11-6) before the Warriors called a timeout. ESU would get as close at four at 13-9, but the Golden Knights went on to outscore the Warriors 12-2 the rest of the way to earn the sweep.
