UNION, N.J. – Highlighted by
Vera Renshof's top time in the 50-yd freestyle and
Kennedy Leveto's seventh PSAC qualifying time of the 2022-23 season, the East Stroudsburg University swimming team completed day one of the Cougar Invite at Kean University.
Through 10 events, the Warriors sit in second place of six schools with 140 points, trailing just meet host Kean (214 pts.). Following KU and ESU are Ramapo (115 pts.), Manhattan (71 pts.), Sarah Lawrence (67 pts.) and Saint Peter's (18 pts.)
Notables
- Renshof topped the 50-yd freestyle with a season-best mark of 24.14, as she nears closer to the NCAA 'B' mark of 23.93. She won the event by nearly a second, besting second-place Abby Burns of Kean (25.12).
- Leveto posted her seventh PSAC qualifying time in the 200-yd individual medley, taking second place with a time of 2:16.69. She has now qualified for the conference meet in York in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, 100 breast, 200 breast, 200 IM and 400 IM for the freshman from Virginia.
- The Warriors also swam well in both relay events, taking second-place in both the opening 200-yd freestyle relay (1:40.17) and the 400-yd medley relay (4:08.84)
How It Happened
- ESU opened the meet strong with a second-place finish in the opening event, the 200-yd freestyle relay. Naihomy Garcia, Jenna Johnson, Leveto and Renshof combined to clock a time of 1:40.17. The Warriors 'B' team also grabbed seventh of the 10 relay teams.
- Madison Tafe and Samantha Grayauskie took fourth and fifth in the 500-yd freestlye, posting times of 5:33.64 and 5:38.40, respectively.
- Leveto posted her impressive qualifying time next, grabbing a second-place finish in the 200-yd individual medley. Teammate Ellie Parido also competed in the event, finishing in 11th place (2:37.51).
- Renshof paced the 50-yd freestyle that featured 27 competitors, earning the first-place finish. Also finishing in the top-10 for ESU were Johnson (8th, 25.83) and Naihomy Garcia (9th, 26.30).
- The Warriors closed the meet with the 400-yd medley relay, taking second place behind Kean's 'A' team. Johnson, Leveto, Avery Fohring and Renshof combined for a time of 4:08.84.
