Volleyball Sweeps Lock Haven on Senior Day to Help Clinch Postseason Berth

EAST STROUDSBURG – In their final match of the regular season, the East Stroudsburg University volleyball punched their ticket to the PSAC Tournament after sweeping Lock Haven on Saturday evening inside Koehler Fieldhouse. The set scores were 25-17, 25-12, 25-15.

Prior to the match, the Warriors honored a pair of seniors in Claire Choloux and Macy Rushall.

The Warriors swept the season series and record their sixth consecutive win over Lock Haven to move to 14-13 overall and 8-6 in the conference, while the Bald Eagles finish the year 1-24 and 1-13 in the PSAC East.

ESU advances to the PSAC Tournament for the fourth consecutive year, the longest streak since making it six straight times from 1983-1989. The Warriors secured the No. 3 seed and will head to Shippensburg on Wednesday at 7 p.m. for a quarterfinal match.

Notables vs. Lock Haven
  • Redshirt junior Kaylee LoPresto had a game-high 10 kills on a .364 hitting percentage to go along with eight digs
     
  • Juniors Sydney Stone and Kaitlin Bruchhauser combined for 14 kills, 10 digs and four blocks
     
  • Freshman Anna Coulter added six kills while Chooloux totaled four kills, eight digs and a pair of aces and blocks a piece
     
  • Taylor Hann and Makaela McComas each had 14 assists while the sophomores combined for 11 digs and five aces
     
  • Junior Makayla Baca notched 14 digs to bring her season total to 436 which ranks sixth in the PSAC
     
  • ESU outhit Lock Haven by a wide margin of .252 (36 kills, 10 errors) to .089 (31 kills, 21 errors)
     
  • The Warriors recorded nine blocks and aces a piece compared to five blocks and two aces for the Bald Eagles
How it Happened vs. Lock Haven
  • Recording five kills of their own and using three attack errors from ESU, the Bald Eagles took an 8-3 lead early in the opening set. The teams traded the next few points but with ESU still down by three at 12-9, the Warriors ripped off a 6-0 run to take a 15-12 advantage. Lock Haven answered quickly, tying the score on multiple occasions (15-15, 16-16, 17-17), until a 5-0 spurt from ESU out them back up, 22-17. The Warriors closed out Lock Haven, 25-19, to secure the first set victory for a 1-0 lead in the match.
     
  • It was back and forth to begin the second set as the teams were deadlocked at 4-4, 5-5, 6-6, 7-7 and 8-8 until ESU scored five of the next seven points to put them up, 13-10. Out of a timeout, ESU kept it rolling as the Warriors used an 8-3 run to stretch their edge to 21-13. Lock Haven trimmed their deficit to 21-15, but the Warriors recorded four of the next five points to finish off the Bald Eagles, 25-16, for a 2-0 advantage in the match.
     
  • The Warriors made quick work of Lock Haven in the final set with the help of a .455 hitting percentage (12 kills, 2 errors), jumping in front 10-2, before stretching their lead to 18-6. ESU would go on to outscore the Bald eagles by three points the rest of the way to secure the sweep with a 25-10 set three win.
