PHILADELPHIA – The East Stroudsburg University women's basketball team dropped their final non-conference game of the season as Holy Family took down the Warriors, 61-37, on Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center.
The Warriors' three-game win streak came to an end, falling to 6-2 overall, while the Tigers improve to 6-5 on the season.
Notables
- Graduate student Shyla Sanford paced the Warriors with nine points and five rebounds while sophomore Izzy Vogel added eight points, three rebounds and four steals
- Graduate student Ryan Weise tallied six points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals
- Sophomore Jessica Polin contributed six points, two rebounds and an assist
- The Warriors had their worst offensive performance of the season, going 17-of-58 (29.3%) from the floor and 3-of-17 (17.6%) from beyond the arc while failing to shoot a single free throw
- Holy Family shot 23-of-54 (42.6%) from the field, 6-of-15 (40.0%) from three-point territory and 9-of-13 (69.2%) from the charity stripe
- The Tigers had 10 different point scorers but were led by Taylor Hinkle (12 points, six rebounds, two steals) and Carolyn Prevost (10 points, five rebounds) in double figures
- Holy Family held a significant advantage in rebounding category over the Warriors, 45-28
- Both teams committed 18 turnovers, and each had 28 points in the paint
How It Happened
- After the Tigers scored the first two points of the game, the Warriors went on an 8-3 run over a three and a half minute span to lead 8-5 with 5:57 on the clock. Holy Family would pull back in front at 10-8, but ESU scored the final five points, which included a three pointer from Polin at the buzzer to take a 13-10 edge.
- Over the first 4:05 of the second quarter, the Tigers used an 8-2 spurt to regain an 18-15 advantage. After Weise got the Warriors back within one point (18-17), Holy Family ripped off a 11-0 run across four-plus minutes until Polin hit another three pointer in the final seconds to trim ESU's deficit to 29-20 going into the break.
- The Warriors opened the second half with a layup from Cassidy Saylor, but after a scoreless drought for each team, Holy Family procced to score 11 of the next 15 points during a six minute span to go ahead 40-26 at the end of the third quarter.
- Holy Family kept it rolling at the start of the final period, using on a 16-2 run to take their largest lead of the game at 56-28 with 5:30 remaining. The Warriors would outscore the Tigers, 9-5, the rest of the way but Holy Family ultimately held on for the 61-37 victory.
