EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University field hockey coaching staff was honored as the 2022 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II Atlantic Region Coaching Staff of the Year on Tuesday afternoon.
The Warriors staff includes head coach Sandy Miller, assistant coach Katie Ord and graduate assistant Elena Andreyev. This is the first time that Miller and her staff have been honored with the regional award as it was solely given to the head coach prior to 2017.
ESU went 20-2 in 2022 on their way to the NCAA Division II National Championship and program record for wins in a single season. It was the second national championship in school history and first since 2015.
The Warriors also captured their third Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship in school history after defeating Millersville, 2-1, in overtime back on November 20.
ESU was a juggernaut defensively, leading the nation in goals against average (0.41), save percentage (0.877) and shutouts (15).
At the opening ceremony for the 2022 Division II Fall Championships Festival, the Warriors were honored with the Team GPA Award for having the top cumulative grade-point average (3.584).
The NFHCA officially recognizes three countable coaches toward the Coaching Staff award, which was instituted in 2017. Miller was named the NFHCA Regional Coach of the Year in 2015.
