EAST STROUDSBURG -- East Stroudsburg University softball head coach Jaime Wohlbach announced on Friday that Sofia Cecchin, Katherine Donaghue, Leigh Ann Jenkins, Rachel Seiverd and Ashley Spencer have been named captains for the 2022 season.

"We have a great group of leaders ready to pave the way towards another successful season," said Wohlbach. They each bring a different aspect of leadership to the team, which makes them a strong force together on and off the field."

Cecchin enters her graduate season ranked 23rd in program history in batting average, 25th in hits, third in stolen bases and fourth in stolen base percentage. In 2021, the native of Italy posted a career-best batting average of .336, scoring 20 runs, 40 hits and 15 RBIs. Her 23 stolen bases were the seventh-most in a single season. The right fielder did not commit an error in 2021.

Donaghue, ESU's primary designated player in 2021, drove in 12 RBIs and belted a pair of home runs in 2021. In the abbreviated 2020 season, Donaghue posted a .409 batting and 18 hits.  

Jenkins will look to lead the Warriors in the circle in 2022. The native of Folsom, Pa. led ESU and ranked sixth in the PSAC with a 2.32 ERA, posting 9-6 record with seven complete games. She struck out 82 batters and held the opposition to a .268 batting average.  In 17 appearances, she allowed earned run or less. Jenkins' 5.9 strikeouts per seven innings ranks second all-time at ESU.

Seiverd impressed in the field at first base in 2021. She committed just a single error on 284 putouts. She ranked fourth on the squad in RBIs. She enters her senior season with 106 career starts, 63 hits, 45 RBIs and a .986 fielding percentage.  

Spencer batted .345 with 20 RBIs during ESU's impressive 2021 season. She enters her final season of eligibility with 73 career RBIs which ranks ninth all-time among Warriors. In left field she committed just three errors with 56 putouts. She has a career batting average of .320.

The PSAC announced earlier this month that the Warriors were picked to finish third in the PSAC East in the conference's preseason poll.

The Warriors open the season in two weeks, hosting Saint Rose, Saint Anselm and St. Thomas Aquinas at Creekview Park for the Warrior Snowball Invitational from February 25-27.
