No. 19 Baseball Cruises Past Pitt-Johnstown to Win 15th Straight Game; Kauffman Ties Doubles Record

STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University baseball team cruised to their 15th straight victory on Thursday afternoon as the Warriors defeated Pitt-Johnstown, 7-2, in a single nine-inning game at Creekview Park.

In the process of stretching their program-best win streak, the Warriors improved to 16-2 on the season while the Mountain Cats fell to 6-4-1.

Redshirt senior Brock Kauffman highlighted the afternoon for ESU with his 46th career double in the bottom of the fifth inning, which tied the school record set by Chris Knott back in 2014. The Blue Ball, Pa. native finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs batted in, one run scored and one walk.

Tom Reisinger (3-0) picked up the victory in his fourth start of the year, yielding one run on four hits to go along with four strikeouts in four innings. Justin Guidos was brilliant in relief as he pitched 4.0 scoreless innings, allowing only three hits while striking out five Mountain Cats.

Seven other Warriors recorded a hit in the game including Anthony Torreullas, who went 2-for-4 which included his fourth home run of the season to go with an RBI and two runs. Catching all nine innings, Haverstick was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI and threw a runner out.

Notables

- With two more RBI today, Kauffman now has 136 in his career which is 10 away from tying the school record of 146 held by Knott

- Cooper Gehring recorded a pinch-hit base knock in the eight inning to push his hitting and on-base streak to a team-high eight games

- ESU went a perfect 4-for-4 on stolen bases to increase their season total to 55-of-61

How it Happened

After stranding a pair of runners in their first at-bats, Pitt-Johnstown cashed in with one run on two hits in the top of the second to take a 1-0 lead. Asher Corl led off with a single to left field and came around to score on an RBI double from Colin Pasone.

The Warriors got the run right back in the home half of the inning as Torreullas crushed a 1-1 a pitch over the center field fence to tie the game.

In the bottom of the third inning, ESU took their first lead as Rojas came around to score following an error by the Mountain Cats' pitcher and a pair of wild pitches. Rojas got on-base after being hit by a pitch with two outs, before putting the Warriors ahead, 2-1.

ESU finally broke through Pitt-Johnstown's bullpen in the bottom of the fifth inning by using four hits to plate three runs, which pushed their edge to 5-1. Kauffman highlighted the frame with his program-tying RBI double before being brought home on a one-out hit from Peechatka to make the score 4-1. Haverstick pushed across the Warriors' fifth run of the afternoon on a single through the left side.

The Warriors added another run in the home half of the sixth inning as Kauffman delivered a run scoring single with two outs that plated Piatkiewicz, who led off with a base hit.

For the third consecutive inning, ESU plated a run as the Warriors made the score 7-1 following the bottom of the seventh. Torreullas got the Warriors started with a leadoff double before coming home on a Haverstick base hit.

In their final at-bats, the Mountains Cats used a pair of hits to plate a run which made the final score 7-2.
