KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- After a loss to begin its 12-game spring break trip, the East Stroudsburg University softball team picked up its seventh consecutive victory with a tripleheader sweep over Upper Iowa (W, 4-2), Walsh (W, 5-4) and AIC (W, 11-2) during The Spring Games on Thursday.
The Warriors improve to an impressive 11-1 with the wins, while the Peacocks (7-8), Cavaliers (2-4), and Yellow Jackets (2-4) all fall.
Notables (Against Upper Iowa and Walsh)
How it Happened vs. Upper Iowa
- Spencer picked up two RBIs in the first inning to begin the contest against the Peacocks. Spencer sent a double to score Nies and Cecchin to give ESU an early lead.
- UIU evened the score in its first at bats on a hit and and an error. The Peacocks made the contest a one-run game off of an error, while also scoring a run on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to make it a 2-2 contest.
- Zigmund took over mound duties after two outs in the game and pitched a gem the rest of the way. In 6.1 innings, the Lock Haven transfer allowed just two hits and struck out five.
- Still tied at 2-2 in the sixth inning, the Warriors posted a pair of runs to take the lead for good, as ESU scored a run off the bat of Nies, who singled home McKeown. Nies would come around to score on an error on the next play.
- Â The Peacocks were able to put a pair of runners on base via a single and a walk, but Zigmund was able to pick up her fourth win of the season by striking out the final batter to strand the runners on base.
How it Happened vs. Walsh
- The Warriors grabbed the first lead of the game, with Vicendese smacking a double to score McKeown, who reached on an error.
- In its next at bats, ESU took a 3-0 lead. Back-to-back doubles from Shaw-Tait and Houser lifted ESU to a 2-0 advantage. Later on in the frame, a Wright suicide squeeze made the contest a 3-0 game. Â
- The Cavaliers evened the contest in the top of the 5th on a pair of hits. A two-RBI double along with an additional two-bagger knotted the contest at 3-3.
- The contest wasn't tied long, as Nies and Spencer both scored on pass balls to make it 5-3 through five innings. The Cavs added their final run of the day off a home run to lead off the 6th inning, but Jenkins would pick up her second win of the season after stranding runners in each of the sixth and seventh innings..
How it Happened vs. AIC
- The Warriors added a third game on Thursday night and defeated AIC, 11-2. Details will be posted when available.
