Men’s Track & Field Records 13 PSAC Qualifying Marks at WCU Quad

WEST CHESTER – The East Stroudsburg University men's track and field team opened the outdoor season with by earning 13 PSAC qualifying marks and winning seven different events on Saturday at the WCU Quad.

Earning conference qualifying marks were Daniel Daley (110m hurdles), Ivan Hicks (110m hurdles, triple jump), Caleb Carney (110m hurdles), Cole Gorham (shot put, discus), Isaac Almoney (shot put, discus, hammer), Zach Nissley (javelin), Seth Leonard (javelin), Daryn Blackwell (hammer) and Romanley Turnier (high jump).

The Warriors captured first place finishes in the 100m, 200m, 110m hurdles, shot put, discus, hammer and javelin.

Running Highlights

The Warriors most impressive showing on the track came in the 110m hurdles as ESU finished first through fifth. Daley led the way in first at 15.73, while Hicks was the runner-up (15.85) and Carney took third (15.88) to each earn PSAC qualifying times. Nasir Kyle finished fourth with a time of 16.40 and Eric Kryzyzaniak took fifth (16.62).

Raul Esteves paced six ESU sprinters in the 100m by taking the top spot with a time of 11.19 while Austin Nice was third (11.31) and Tyler Boone finished tied for fifth at 11.36. Also running the 100m was Sean Roberts (11th, 11.51), Jack Gorham (12th, 11.63) and Jayden Browne (14th, 11.96).

Esteves returned to the track with a first place finish in the 200m after clocking a time of 22.80 and Roberts took third after crossing the finish line in 23.17. Nice rounded out ESU with a ninth-place finish (23.78).

Jordan Chong-Gayle was the runner-up in the 800m with a time of 1:59.76, followed by Luke Valdevit in fifth (2:01.70), Brian McGarrity in eighth (2:03.51) and Evan Wooby in 10th (2:06.94).

In the 1500m, Valedit led a trio of Warriors with a third place finish after clocking a time of 4:10.12 while McGarrity (4:13.90) and Wooby (4:20.35) took fifth and eighth respectively.

With the Warriors representing the only four competitors in the 400m hurdles, Kyle grabbed the top spot (59.36), Liam Beifus (1:03.60) finished second in his ESU debut, Zandrew Bowe (1:05.48) was third and Caleb Diaz (1:08.15) took fourth.

Running two relay groups in the 4x400m, the Warriors "B" squad finished as the runner-up after clocking a time of 3:32.13.

Field Event Highlights

The Warriors took the top two spots in the shot put as Cole Gorham was first with a throw of 15.70m (51-6 ¼) while Isaac Almoney finished as the runner-up with a mark of 15.07m (49-5 ½). Gorham's mark is the sixth best in school history while Almoney's ranks eighth.

Making their ESU debuts, Zach Nissley and Seth Leonard were both impressive as the duo took 1-2 in the javelin. Nissley notched a mark of 58.19m (190-11) while Leonard record a throw of 54.65m (179-3) as both meet PSAC qualifying standards.

ESU was also impressive in the discus, finishing 1-2-3. Cole Gorham grabbed the top spot with a throw of 49.22m (161-5 ¾) and Almoney was the runner-up at 45.20m (148-3 ½) to both earn PSAC qualifying marks. Daryn Blackwell took third with a throw of 40.59m (133-2). In his first time throwing the discus at the collegiate level, Gorham notched the third-best mark in program history.

The Warriors capped off a dominant afternoon in the throws as Almoney and Blackwell captured the top two spots in the hammer, while Cole Gorham took fourth. Almoney won the event with a throw of 53.03m (173-11) and Blackwell was the runner-up with a mark of 46.78m (153-5), which both meet the conference qualifying standards. Gorham launched the hammer 39.54m (129-8).

In a limited high jump field, Turnier finished third after clearing a conference qualifying height of 1.90m (6-2 ¾).

After competing on the track, Hicks turned his attention to the sand pit where he was the runner-up in the triple jump which included recorded a conference qualifying mark after recording a leap of 13.09m (42-11 ½).

Jack Gorham was ESU's top finisher in the long jump, coming in fourth with a mark of 6.33m (20-9 ¼) while Caleb Carney took seventh with a leap of 6.08m (19-11 ½).
