EAST STROUDSBURG – For the first time in 897 days, the East Stroudsburg University women’s tennis team returns to the court as the Warriors open the spring portion of their schedule on Wednesday with a trip to West Chester.

After having their fall season canceled, former Warriors student-athlete from 2016-20 and graduate of ESU, Marina Zardet was named the head coach of the program on November 1, 2021. 

“We are all very excited to be back on the court this spring season, said the first-year head coach. “The team has spent the past couple months getting ready and are eager to play!”

Zardet returned to the Poconos after serving as a graduate assistant coach for the men's and women's tennis teams at DeSales University since July of 2020.

As a player Zardet went 27-21 in singles matches and posted a record of 22-27 in doubles. She was named All-PSAC East Second Team Singles in 2017 after advancing to the Round of 16 at the PSAC Individual Championships. That season, Zardet was also honored as the Team MVP after going 11-6 in singles matches.

In a short amount of time, the Coplay, Pa. native has done an excellent job recruiting and preparing her student-athletes for their match against the Raiders.

Senior Mady Cruz (Bangor, Pa./Bangor), junior Jesse Glavin (Easton, Pa./Wilson), sophomore Sophie Golden (Dagsboro, Del.), freshman Jessica Passmore (Swiftwater, Pa./Pocono Mountain East), freshman Samantha Passmore (Swiftwater, Pa./Pocono Mountain East), junior Sherin Paul (Castries, Saint Lucia) and senior Emma Wiedbrauk (Sussex, N.J.) make up the 2022 Warriors. Each member of the squad will be competing in their first-ever collegiate tennis match on Wednesday at 3:30 from the WCU Tennis Courts. 

The Warriors will play seven PSAC matches over the next four weeks with three of those contest taking place at Wolbers Courts.
