LAKEWOOD, N.J. -- Behind 11 combined goals from senior Madison Bagatta and graduate student Gianna LeDuc, the sixth-ranked East Stroudsburg University women's lacrosse team defeated Georgian Court, 17-9, on Saturday afternoon at the GCU Track and Field Complex.
The nationally-ranked Warriors improve to 2-0 on the season with their first road win, while the Lions drop to 1-4 in 2022.
Notables
- Bagatta and LeDuc each posted career days for the Warriors, recording six and five goals, respectively.
- McKenna Conklin and Emily Mitarotonda each added a pair of goals while Maddie Heck and Kiki Fitzpatrick also found the back of the net.
- Heck also added an assist against her former team. Heck totaled 99 goals, 48 assists, for 147 points in 53 games for the Lions before transferring to ESU for her graduate season.
- For the second straight game, Bella Gismondi (2-0) and McKenzie Gaghan split time in the cage. Gismondi picked up two saves.
How It Happened
- Conklin found the back of the net first for ESU at the 13:23 mark, but just over a minute later, GCU evened the contest. The Warriors then strung together three consecutive goals, with Fitzpatrick, LeDuc and Conklin providing goals.
- After GCU cut the deficit to two, Bagatta would get a goal back with 1:02 remaining in the first quarter, as ESU led the Lions 5-2 after 15 minutes.
- LeDuc opened the scoring in the second quarter in just 27 seconds, while Bagatta followed with her second goal just 15 seconds later as ESU led 7-2 early in the second quarter.
- GCU added a goal in between a seven Warriors goals, as two additional goals from Bagatta and two from Mitarotonda lifted ESU to an 11-3 advantage.
- The Lions did not give up, adding a goal just before halftime and took momentum in the second half with a 4-1 run to cut the Warrior lead to 12-8. LeDuc ended the GCU scoring run, scoring the final goal of the third quarter, as ESU led 13-8 after three quarters.
- ESU closed the non-conference contest strong, as ESU scored four of the final five goals of the game to escape with a 17-9 victory on Saturday afternoon.
