Men’s Track & Field Opens Bison Outdoor Classic on Thursday

BUCKNELL – The East Stroudsburg University men's track and field team opened the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic on Thursday by competing in the decathlon and discus from Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.

Caleb Carney led the way through the first five events of the decathlon as the sophomore accumulated 3145 points to sit in sixth place. Daniel Daley was ninth at 3009 points and Eric Krzyzaniak is in 13th with 2783 points.

In the discus, freshman Cole Gorham continued to impress as he extended his personal-best mark and freshman record on his way to a third place finish.

Decathlon Highlights

Krzyzaniak paced the Warriors in the 100m by taking fourth with a time of 11.55, followed by Daley in ninth at a personal-best of 11.61 and Carney in 12th at 11.75.

Headed to the sand pit for the long jump, Daley led ESU in seventh after leaping 6.00m (19-8 ¼), while Carney was 10th with a mark of 5.94m (19-6) and Krzyzaniak was 16th at 5.42m (17-9 ½).

In the shot Put, Carney took fourth with a personal-best toss of 10.94m (35-10 ¾), Daley was 13th with a mark of 9.26 (30-4 ¾) and Krzyzaniak rounded out the finishes for the Warriors at 8.70m (28-6 ½).

Daley led ESU on the high jump in a tie for sixth after clearing the bar at 1.75m (5-8 ¾), followed by Carney in a tie for eighth at 1.72m (5-7 ¾) and Krzyzaniak in t-10th with a height of 1.69m (5-6 ½).

The Warriors closed out the day in 400m with Carney finishing as the runner-up with a personal-best time of 51.02 while Daley was ninth at 53.37 and Krzyzaniak in 12th after clocking a 54.18.  

Field Event Highlights

Gorham recorded a throw of 51.22m (168-0) on his way to taking third and was just a foot shy of breaking the school record held by Dane Cochran (168-11) since 1980. Isaac Almoney took 11th with a throw of 43.97m (144-3) and Daryn Blackwell was 23rd with a mark of 39.17m (128-6).

The Warriors are back in action starting with day two of the Bison Outdoor at 8:30 a.m. from  Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
